so how do you query the data?
build reports?
handle user updates?
how do you scale to more than 1 box once things get busier?

In 4tH, it is pretty easy:

  include lib/dbms.4th

ok but how does a long running app update it?
how do you scale the db out?
run reports?
build query?

I've never understood why anyone responds to Gavino. If a five year old
asked me about data bases and every time I give an answer he responded
with "why?", would I continue to answer him? No, at some point I would
show him something shiny and distract him.

Maybe we need to post code for the sieve of Eratosthenes?

Gavino with all due respect you are missing the answers. The answer is always the same.

YES Forth CAN do what you ask. It is a language that has complete control of the machine.

The question you should ask is:

Has anybody here implemented <feature x> in Forth?

and most of the time for the questions you ask , but not always, the answer will be NO.
People use Forth for low level access to the machine more commonly.

Your types of applications would typically have the Forth programmer write an application specific
language in Forth then solve the problem.

Could you give some indication that you understood this reply?

B

PS the repetition of the same question without understanding the answers makes you appear to be a bot.

Where would someone learn to write such domain specific apps?
Do starting and thinking forth cover this.
You seem to be saying "No we don't write it, I can't point to an example, but someone could somehow somewhere"
You wonder now why I feel the question unanswered?
Do you understand that?

"Where would someone learn to write such domain specific apps?

In fact yes they do. Starting Forth as I recall has exercise
Questions and solutions that give examples of how to write Forth Code.
But if you want a complete app for your purpose you will have to do it yourself.

"You seem to be saying "No we don't write it, I can't point to an example,

I think I understand your frustration but you won't find
Many prefab solutions. Forth is a box of tools. You have
To build the house yourself.

That is how it is in the Forth world.

There are courses offered by the commercial system providers In U.K. And USA.

Or do what everyone that I know did. Work on it yourself. Try something simple.

We tried that. It doesn't help. People just hand him the answers
expecting him to learn, and then he asks the same question again four
to six months later.

We also tried answering, "NO, that's NOT possible in Forth. Forth
simply can't do that. It's too primitive." That didn't help either.
That should have inspired him to prove us wrong, i.e., reverse
psychology. He still asks the same question again four to six months
later.

I've lost track of how many times he's asked about Forth PCs and
something or other in 1% of the code.

If he attempted to code anything in Forth, he'd learn something.

> PS the repetition of the same question without understanding the

I'd posit that he's having electroshock treatments periodically
(That's a joke!), or perhaps has Alzheimer's disease or other dementia
(Am I serious? Maybe, maybe not ...), or hard drug or alcohol abuse
(Very plausible.). I think we need to get to the root cause of his
"brain reset" before we assume he's a bot, but then again there is that
Forth AI guy hanging around, ... Mentifex?
