According to my knowledge, Forth was originally developed for astronomical reasons. Astronomy is the science of observing the heaven. So my question is: Did Chuck Moore believes in Hollow Earth or in the Flatearth model which is mentioned in the bible?

Thank you.

Just ask him - send an email to http://www.greenarraychips.com/. Do you believe in a flat earth and do you relate to Forth? Otherwise you might be stumbled into the wrong group.

The earliest version of Forth was developed for a carpet manufacturing
company. Several early applications involved astronomy, as well as other
scientific and commercial applications. Chuck is a brilliant and
well-educated man, and accepts the scientifically proven models of the
earth and the universe.

Cheers,
Elizabeth

What would you say was the earliest version of Forth that your typical
Forther would recognise as Forth? Kitt Peak?

Interesting question. The first version I saw was controlling the 36'
radio telescope on Kitt Peak (belonging to the National Radio Astronomy
Observatory), although there was a apparently a predecessor using punch
cards on a mainframe at NRAO's Charlottesville facility for data
analysis. Chuck wrote about the one at the carpet company in his memoir
and the History of Forth article for the ACM SIGPLAN History Of
Programming Languages Conference April 1993,
https://www.forth.com/resources/forth-programming-language/. It was also
managed by punch cards on a mainframe, in about 1970.

Cheers,
Elizabeth

As I recall, the program was used to design carpet patterns.

LOL.

By way of explanation for people outside North America. The story I heard was
a person was asking an indigenous person from North America about their creation
stories. The first nations person said they believe the world rested on the
back of a giant turtle.

White man: "But what does the turtle stand on?"
First nations: "Another turtle"
White man: "And what does the second turtle stand on?"
First nations: "Another turtle"
White man: "Well, what's at the very bottom?"
First nations: "We don't know, but it's turtles all the way down"

Now you know

After Googling this reference I realize my story is the very provincial Canadian
version. Wow! I had no idea how broad this little phrase is.

Humbled...

Yes I know. On Youtube I've seen a flying carpet from One Thousand and One Nights which was flown into the sky. The patterns were created by a Finite State Machine.

Anyone who understands astronomy knows a thousand ways Flat Earth can't be anything but BS. All of the GPS algorithms use the spherical model. Surely a programmer would discover the conspiracy. Or anyone aiming a satellite TV dish. The purpose of the Flat Earth society is to argue the inarguable as a philosophical exercise. Some people get a kick out of fooling people.
