Folks this conversation would work it reason was used instead of
emotions, so there is not a whole lot to be gained by pursuing it.

In a way it makes me sad, one more chip at humanity and reason. Oh well,
on with my software project of the week, the speeding up eForth for the
esp8266, or is that allowed? I think I can make it at least 5X faster
most likely more, it's not very efficient as written but it works.

I can see why Forth compilers written in C are slow, but at least it
makes it more portable, I have a printout of the esp8266 Programmers
Manual (assembler) and it will take a while to absorb it.

As an aside does anyone know if there are any tools that show the
generated code from the Arduino Platform, right now I'm blind as to what
it's generating so I can figure out more efficient way to generate an
eForth VM. I suppose one way is to download their development tools and
modify the source code so it compiles, their tools show the generated
code. Another method is to have a loop that is timed and executes a
small fragment of code thousands of time and compare it to other ways,
but that is very inefficient way of finding a more efficient way to code.

Computers are evil.

THAT is what I was replying to. You are far over reacting. You seem to
think that talking about the fact that DRM can be circumvented is the
same as promoting it. It's NOT. You really need to take another look
at this. No one did anything wrong, but you are telling people they are
wrong and worse.

That is not true. Illegal commercial exploitation of works ( i.e. without
proper copyright clearance, don't call that stealing, that is
a misleading term) commands all but the dead penalty in the US.
Don't call that easy.

It is unpleasant that on top of the draconian legal protection,
legitime users are harassed.
I'm willing to pay for eBooks and won't distribute them illegally,
but I won't deal with Kindle.

In what way do you think you're harassed with DRM on Kindle?

1) You buy the book on the Amazon website
2) About 10 seconds later it appears on your kindle
3) Read and enjoy.

If you have multiple readers/kindles, you can select which device
you want to read it on. Up to 5 devices. You can also share books
in your library with family members. Just a like a "real" book.

The only thing you can't do is make illegal copies for your friends.

Just like a real book.

I can lend a book to anyone I wish, they don't have to share DNA with me.

OK, I'm simple, if you take something without permission that you are
suppose to pay for but don't, I call that stealing. It doesn't matter if
the people at Amazon are jerks or not, it's somebody else's work and one
needs to pay for it.

In the States DRM has gone way off the rails with the Digital Millenium
Act, they totally bypass all the Fair Use Laws, and it pisses me quite
often, I have several Blue Ray movies I paid good money for and they
won't play on certain computers because DRM says the video card will not
protect the content. Excuse me, I plaid for that movie and I should be
able to play it on whatever computer I want. My answer was to buy Video
Player software that plays the movie no matter what the video card is,
problem solved.

And now you are reposting the link that tries to infect your computer.

Interesting site, to download a pdf file you have to install some
software from them (who are they?), no explanation of why, they rig up
your browser so one cannot leave their page without resorting to the
program manager.

This smells to high heaven, thanks but no thanks, I would find another
site to put that PDF file in that is less suspicious.

Cecil, didn't you read Juergen's accusation? That PDF doesn't belong
anywhere except in the trash, because it's an illegal copy. When I
get home, it's getting deleted from my hard drive too, and I'm never
going back to that site or telling anyone about it.

... and Juergen has made it abundantly clear that the link is
illegal, so please stop quoting it. I had absolutely nothing
to do with that upload. I just found it a few pages down in
my search engine, and innocently followed it without paying
attention to its legality, or lack thereof. I send my heart-
felt apologies to anyone and everyone who was hurt or offended
by it, including Juergen and Dr. Ting.

That message was after your link was posted and before I received his
post. The site itself is a questionable site, I wonder how many persons
installed that sites software and what will be the consequences.

Did you and others not wonder why you had to install software before
downloading a pdf file? The Internet is a very unsafe place for the
person that does not question things.

You never need to install software to download or view PDFs. They are
trying to infect you with a virus and I don't know why Michael Barry and
JUERGEN are posting it.

that you're accusing others of doing?

The message you replied to does not include a link of any kind.

No shit, Sherlock! Are you claiming that you didn't intentionally
quote that link in at least two other posts in this thread?

Barry you started this so quit being so self righteous like it's
everyone else's fault, drop the subject and it will go away.

I don't know what you are going on about. How does it matter how many
times the link is posted? Usenet is forever. Those links are now
archived for all time and there is nothing you can do about it.

You can however, continue to rant and rave.

Lots of us here can supply hosting space, but we'd need Ting's
permission and it doesn't sound like he's up for that.

I think this Kindle thing is unfortunate. I'd like to read some of the
books, I don't mind paying money for them, but I don't use a Kindle and
don't want to use one. I'd much rather get a plain pdf or epub.

Just download the free reader for any screen you have including PC AS I STARTED before I bought a tablet to see what the eBooks would look like on a real tablet. If you buy one of the eBooks on the Forth Bookshelf YOU can read it on ALL 3 DEVICES at the same time for the price of one ...
