Why am I sitting on this Trillion dollar idea?

Skip all shit.
TCP/ip and html.
Forth so 1% of 1% code of modern spark hadoop clusters for big data and huge websites.
Forth desktop replaces ipad and other desktops.
Free software based on forth machines goes nuts.
PEople have chat and audio to replace phones.
Forth based devices replace cell phone towers.
Good spread throughout world.
Governments limited to 1/20,000th of gdp and no central banks.
Mass produced concrete colmn metal roof/floor, and plastic walls houses and apartments 1$/square foot.
Unregulated capitalism!
AWESOME!
free your mind!

http://pricewatch.com/computer_systems_no_os/ cheap desktop ok for freebsd!
amd64 and freebsd here!
Good but not as fast and simple as forth desktop pc could be!
Also I bet forth could do usb like 4 to beat usb3 speed.
http://www.ultratechnology.com/method.htm
Just because zillions use shit like oracle java salesforce doesn't mean it will win because people love better alternatives!

I apologize, my first response to your rambling post was sarcastic. So
I'll now take you at your word, and assume you are actually interested
in having someone create a "Forth-based device with TCP/IP and a
web-browser etc. built-in".

You say it's a "trillion-dollar idea", and that you believe in
capitalism. I, too, am a fan of capitalism. So let's proceed on that
basis:

1. It it's indeed a "trillion-dollar idea", you should have no problem
at all getting a VC to back it. So why don't you do that?

2. But first, you need to spell out the idea in a convincing manner
rather than in sound-bites. So please specify: what is the ROI the VC
would see, and why? Remember to use complete and logical sentences.

3. End users not only don't care about the size of the app, they have
little notion of what it might be. How does "1%" (assuming, arguendo,
that it's a valid estimate) translate into $$$ for the VC? Remember:
the customer is the end-user, but the VC is the one funding your
development. If the VC isn't convinced there will be customers, you're
sunk before you begin.

4. Development time is not free. You need lots of $$$ to fund the
development of a system like you envision, and it will take a lot of
time to develop, debug and deploy. You'll also need to convince OEM
manufacturers to make hardware to your specifications (or you'll have to
make compromises to operate on commodity hardware). Decisions,
decisions! You better gen up some good spreadsheets analyzing the
possibilities.

5. I can 100% guarantee you that no end-user in the world cares what
language the OS etc. is written in. Why do you think having a
Forth-based system would be a selling point? Please elucidate in
complete sentences, as your potential VC will be asking this very
question and expect a well thought-out answer.

Because, you know, shouting "unregulated capitalism, AWESOME!" at a VC
will get you exactly nowhere.

Are you a forth expert of some fame? I seem to have seen your name around?
I find you list offensive and condescending.
Look at all the money spent on desktop computers and servers.
IF Forth hardware and software could provide a cheaper and better alternative....wouldn't that be a good thing?
The net is tcp/ip and html. There are the unversal and cool ways all things can interoperate.
Openbsd lets you do software routing.
I bet there are video conferecing apps on linux.
Forth has amazing powers....and if forth hardware is cheaper, less power, and simpler, then it has Trillions of dollars of petential.
I use freebsd on amd 965 6 core with 16 ram desktop.
The only thing I wish I had was more disks so I could use ZFS mirrors to make raid 10.
BSD can replace windows.
FOrth can do that and more.
This is the vision.
Don't be snarky be posative.
I am asking if people have tried this.
I was being enthusiastic not being patronizing.
Which you were intending.
Why are you so angery?
I am excited for forth do make things faster and use less hardware and be more efficient!

Who said Forth would make things faster, use less hardware or be more
efficient?

Well, to be fair: I just finished rewriting 8th's high-level network
code using 8th instead of the C code for most of it. It's faster (by a
lot). No, I don't particularly understand why.

Beetlejuice...

Than current versions of 8th. So it's cool to me, but may not make any
difference in the real world...

You probably mean current versions of 8th using a c-library. That is a
valid comparison.

Yes, that's what I mean exactly.

The performance difference is almost two-fold, so that's extremely
significant for 8th users.

Good to hear.

I have a real project to do in 8th, it involves a lot of networking and
graphing. A PC will talk to a esp8266 module using WiFi, sending it
commands, and displaying in turn thermocouple temperature data from the
esp8266. It's a oven controlled to give a precise temperature profile
to solder PCB boards. This is a project that I've done with several CPUs
and programming languages as a comparison of technologies. This will be
though the first implementation with wireless technology which in the
long run the most practical, with no cables in sight. So far I been
playing with Micro-Python on the esp8266 and that has been fun,
eventually I'll try it in Forth also.

I'm not sure what 8th was written in. Was this code obtained somewhere
else or was it code you wrote in C? If you wrote both the C and the
Forth code, was it essentially the same code transcribed or did you
rethink the problem?

Writing code a second time often results in better code regardless of
the language.
