Philae Lander - What Next?

British Company Announces Crowdfunded Lunar Mission

http://www.spacenews.com/article/civil-space/42598british-company-announces-crowdfunded-lunar-mission

Now, the proposition that launch costs are able to be greatly reduced is not an absurd one. If Elon Musk can reliable reuse his first stage rocket, then it may happen. If SpaceX are not fiddling around with their numbers too much, it might cost only $7 million dollars to launch a probe or a lander or a rover to the Moon. That would just be the cost of the launcher, not including the lander and other costs involved. There is some potential revenue to be had with this. I think that the three billion dollars touted by Lunar Mission One for their potential revenue sounds quite high, but I certainly think that it is possible that if successful, they may not loose their shirts on this one.

Elon Musk is already putting pressure on the global launch industry. Both in the United States and overseas.

http://www.spacenews.com/article/launch-report/42610europe%E2%80%99s-satellite-operators-urge-swift-development-of-ariane-6

Lunar Mission One appears to be well on track to achieving their Kickstarter goal.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lunarmissionone/lunar-mission-one-a-new-lunar-mission-for-everyone

I would like to encourage anybody who was involved with the Philae mission to keep abreast of this. I would also like to encourage anybody involved with Forth for the Philae lander to contact Lunar Mission One, or any other company which would like to take advantage of the new lower launch costs offered by SpaceX. This is because a certain rad-hardened Forth microprocessor may be the lowest cost, most reliable, and lowest power alternative for a range of privately funded space missions.

Well, if you yourself could gain access to potentially billions of dollars from the government, wouldn't you take it as well? Or, perhaps you are one of those rare people who would forgo personal gain for their principles? If the government handed you a check, would you refuse?

Elon Musk has create perhaps thousands of jobs, or more. How many jobs have you created Gavino?

I wanted this thread to be a serious discussion about the future possibilities afforded by reduced access to outer space, but I suppose that this will be another flame-fest. :^)

So much for the experiment of unlimited communication without barriers, boundaries, or borders. A tragedy of the commons?

I suppose that most people don't take (ab)Usenet very seriously for this reason.

Or some of us just ignore the crap. When I see dog poo on the sidewalk,
I don't get upset and complain out loud that people should curb their
dogs. I either kick it to the gutter (if it's not overly fresh) or just
keep walking...
