#55793 — Moderated FORTH group on Facebook.

SubjectModerated FORTH group on Facebook.
Message-ID<2916354d-dddf-4247-b29c-eef07c6e488f@googlegroups.com>
Last year, I setup a moderated FORTH programming group on Facebook. With it's growing popularity, I setup an additional FORTH group for developers and makers to sell their products and services.

New members are welcome.

These are moderated groups, so spam and bullying are not acceptable any offenders are excluded.

That sounds like a good idea --- people who claim to set the standard for the entire Forth community by fiat should be excluded --- people who write Forth code-libraries should be welcome.

That is what you mean?

This sounds like a corporate-shill site --- you pretend to represent the Forth community --- but you actually represent Forth Inc., so the site consists entirely of thinly veiled advertising for Forth Inc.. This is like that Chevrolet commercial we get at the beginning of movies that features: "real people, not actors."

I have described Forth-200x as "astro turf" --- this means a corporate project that is faked up to appear to be a grassroots project --- the term mostly comes from politics, such as the "Tea Party."

Forth-200x has the rule that no company or individual can have more than one vote on the committee. Yet, Andrew Haley is an employee of Forth Inc., so he votes as his boss Leon Wagner tells him to. Similarly, Peter Knaggs is an employee of MPE so he votes as his boss Stephen Pelc tells him to. Also, Stephen Pelc and Elizabeth Rather have boasted about how Forth Inc. and MPE do joint projects --- it appears that Elizabeth Rather sells the job using her usual: "I alone learned Forth directly from Chuck" sales pitch --- but Forth Inc. lacks the programmers needed to do the work, so she then out-sources the programming work to MPE.

Quite a cozy tightly-knit group, the Forth-200x committee is! How easy is it to be on a committee along with your boss? Just vote as your boss tells you to vote, with no thinking required, then cash in your paycheck at the end of the week that has your boss's signature on it for authorization.

The Forth-200x consider the Forth community to be competitors --- they are purposely crippling the standard so nobody can write standard programs that are competitive. Meanwhile, Forth Inc. and MPE ignore the standard in their own programs but, because they own the committee, they have a platform from which they can denounce anybody else who ignores the standard as being a non-standard wannabee.

I notice that you have an "esq" after your name. Is it common for lawyers to program in Forth? Or, perhaps, you work for Forth Inc., not as a programmer, but as a lawyer? Elizabeth Rather was previously bragging about how she was suing Apple Computer because their Swift programming language supposedly steals the fame of SwiftForth. I suppose Forth Inc. has on-staff lawyers to file deep-pocket lawsuits like this. Is that what you do? What is your interest in Forth that inspires you to set up two Forth forums? Since you are a lawyer, you are presumably familiar with the terms: "full disclosure" and "conflict of interest."

Right then, you stay here then and argue with yourself.

This is just the reason why I created this group, so discussions stay on topic and bitter little trolls stay out.

This group is not so overrun with the non-productive posters that it is
not worth reading. I have no doubt a moderated group would have fewer
non-productive posts, but it would likely also have fewer productive
posts. I have yet to find a moderated group that was worth following.

Yours requiring a Facebook account makes it a no-go for me.

I guess we'll just have to continue to live with the trolling posts and
spam.

Just a few killfile entries fixes most of that.

Just use killfiles. They've been part of USENET since almost the very
beginning. The only problem is people who reply to trolling and spam,
often without trimming.

OK everyone I did find a few issues that may be causing problems.
If anyone still can't get in it would help me if you could try and get
some info to me about what you are using:
IP address
Web browser
are both very helpful.
Please note you will not get in if :
1 You are blanking your user agent name
2. You are not using GET (whoever it is using POST - that doesnt work there)

You should also allow the front page to do a redirect - it just takes
you to http:.//johntech.co.uk instead of www.johntech.co.uk not anywhere else.
I can't mess with that for a while as I have embedded pages routing there sorry.

Thank you all for letting me know there was an issue.

Appologies to all - I just assumed there was little interest from here
as no one said anything.People have visited so I know it's not a network fault.
And my clients are ok.

It may just be a firewall issue - I did have to lock down tight a while back
so maybe something got restored from backup that shouldn't have.
(I had the whole of the USA blocked at one point)
I'll take a look and see what I can do later tonight.

Please do hassle me any way you can if you can't get through.
Its a shame to waste a perfectly empty forum !

It works here.
Not a single offensive posting in sight!

Who is Jack exactly? I see posts here from Stephen Walters and a
"mister35mm" who would seem to be the same person. How did we get onto
a different forum created by a different person?

Also, "underused" is a bit of an understatement...

I started the ball rolling in the "Stack Machines OS and Parallel" group.
