That only shows the shipping costs. I don't see the products you seem
to be seeing.

The UK Pound is currently around $1.30 while not too long ago it was
more like $1.50. But even at $1.50 the £25 price you mention would only
be $37.50.

What products do you see for £15 to £25? Can you just tell me the names
so I can see if they are the same ones I see?

Yes, something is wrong with their web site I suspect. The prices for
the units you provide links to are $50 US and $75 US with the Microbit
board being the $75 item. I expect they are giving US vs. UK pricing
based on my IP address.

I think $50 for the kit is not a bad price. $75 for the board is pretty
high. If the mistake they made was switching the prices, the £15 board
would be $50 and the £25 kit would be $75. This is still pretty high
with a 3:1 exchange rate which is more than twice the going rate.
Something has gone awry with their currency conversion and/or web site
creation.

I'm not all that excited by this device to be honest. It's interesting,
but it's not being marketed to me. I'm not in education.

It was more interesting when it was going to cost $5 or something like
that. Right now it's just another relatively expensive dev board,
compared to other boards with equally or more capable hardware.

A $11 Nucleo is far more powerful for a heck of a lot less money, extra
components, a couple of dollars will get you there so the whole thing
will be less than 1/3 the cost. They should have used an already
existing board rather than their expensive one.

Oh no! Somebody is wasting somebody else's time on the internet! Arg!!! Somebody got his feelings hurt on the internet! Double-Arg!!!

Don't you guys know that the internet is supposed to boost productivity and save time? If you don't believe me, then lets ask the millions of people on Twitter what their opinion is.

!!!MEDICAL ALERT!!! If you roll your eyes every time you read something stupid on the internet, they may get stuck pointing backwards, and all you will see of the world is your own empty head!

If it were a reasonable price so that would be competitive and popular
then it would be interesting. But a $75 board with a $2 CPU is not
interesting. If that displeases you, take it up with Microbit, not me.

I'm not in education. I am an engineer and an experimenter. I like low
priced stuff that I can use without thinking about the cost. The
Microbit is not targeted to that market. It is targeted to the
education market where they provide educational materials and charge a
correspondingly higher price. I didn't know that until I saw the prices.

Actually I give a shit about the prices. All of these details were asked here. As STEM Ambassador I got them for free anyway to work with - and made Mecrisp MicroBit possible by sending one to Matthias so he had a hardware basis to work on.

Great! Problem solved. You should have mentioned that you would
provide the hardware.

I'm not sure it's worth the effort of dealing with Forth written in an
interpretive language, I would think it would be slow.

Are you sure that something like the MPE Lite version of their compiler
would not be usable with minimum effort? It targets the ARM M0 as part
of it's capabilities, you might have to copy and change the CPU file to
define where the Flash, and RAM are and define a couple of words to do
IO but it should not be a horrible amount of work. You will be limited
to 64K of FLASH, and 16K of RAM, but Forth can do an awful lot with
that. It has a tethered version available to minimize the resources used
in the target while staying interactive

There are other free versions of Forth for M0 CPUs such as Mecrisp.

I got hold of a Microbit sent it to Germany to Matthias, he adapted Mecisp, it runs under Linux,
no solution yet for Windows. And this is what I want. 12 year olds normally do not have Linux.
For me speed is no issue, actually it does not matter it will be the fastest Forth on microbit until there is a better implementation -
I want to see how it can be implemented.
There are enough DevBoards from ST around and I have MPE VFX LITE running on it now.
