Stephen Pelc's talk on the Forth standards *process* is quite 
insightful, in my opinion, and I would recommend it to anyone with an 
interest in that:

Hi Doug,

Yes indeed. I watched Stephen's presentation all the way through. He hit the nail pretty much on the head. I'll upload the presentation to 'The Tube' in due course. Working my way through a list of them.

Would you consider archive.org instead of "the tube"?  It has less
spying and doesn't try to obstruct viewers from downloading the videos.

Paul,

I never even considered archive.org. Does it have decent bandwidth for hosting videos? I'm all for something that isn't trying to spy on me. I'll check it out.

Yes.  It also automatically converts the videos to multiple formats,
and automatically seeds torrents in addition to hosting downloads and
an in-browser viewer.

This is probably a bad time for the subject to have come up, since I see
the main archive.org site is having problems right now.  This happens
once in a while, but it's not that common.  Try again later, I guess.

The only point for YouTube is that all these "social" features apparently 
are behind those walled gardens, and just providing a link doesn't work.

We don't spy and you can download with a right click on the video.

I'm ok, if you like, upload it somewhere else.  I think you all should put a

That site is for archiving websites.  It's not great for
finding content.  It frequently fails to index anything
other than the first page of a site.  Zip files, videos
etc, are frequently not archived.  It's frequently very
slow to use.

So, why would you prefer it to Youtube, Vimeo, Meta-Cafe,
DailyMotion, etc?  Of course, it should be archived in
a Forth archive too.

That's the "Wayback machine", a specific feature of archive.org.  The
Archive also hosts a lot of user-uploaded videos, scanned books, etc.
Just visit the front page and click the links for "Video", "Live Music",
"Audio", and "Texts".  To upload, click the blue upload button in the
upper right.

Already answered: privacy, automatic provision of multiple video
formats, and greater download-friendliness.  I'd add more stability too,
at least so far.  Google features seem to come and go.

I find that I am getting increasingly uncomfortable with Google and its spying practices. However, the reason I use YouTube to upload Forth related videos is simply this: If you want to see a video about *anything* now on planet earth, you go to YouTube. Fact. If it aint on YouTube, it didn't happen. I'm simply trying to ensure that, in the event that somebody is curious about Forth programming, if they try YouTube, they'll find something. It's about expanding the audience, by expanding the catchment area.
