That's just > cruel! > Most likely people used to kill the larks before cutting out their tongues, because it is too difficult to do this while the animal is still alive. The same with cows. On the other hand it is more profitable to keep the larks alive in large lark farms, where they vomit regularly; the vomit can then go into the production of Belgian chocolates. -- Marc
