  word.gsub(/(?<=.)[A-Z]/){|c| "_" + c}.downcase
end

Another way:

def un_camel_case word
  word.gsub(/(?<=.)[A-Z]/, '_\0').downcase
end

un_camel_case "STuDlYcApS"
 ===>
