Stephen's suggestion to replace >R DFLOAT+ R> with SWAP DFLOAT+ SWAP improves the performance in kforth-fast also. For multiplying 100x100 double-precision matrices, the execution time is reduced by 16%. Implementation of SWAP is critical. Last time I checked, Intel's XCHG instruction to exchange the contents of a register and memory is slower than using MOV.
