One of the things missing about writing meaningful programmes is the need to employ a good deal of 'pre-thinking' in order to establish a suitable framework on which to attach your functionality. Coding should be a minimal proportion of the overall project time, especially if it is Safety Related. I find that more than 60% of my project effort will be involved with the resolution of the Clients Requirements Specification into a document(s) that can be fully validated as early as possible. Less than 10% goes into coding and the majority of the remainder is mostly testing. The Norris numbers are sort of interesting, but then 2,000 lines of Forth can become quite a powerful application. If done properly, it will not be a messy mass. Taking it beyond 2,000 lines will require a bit of a change in attitude and making it safe and dependable does require that lots of thought goes into its production. -- ******************************************************************** Paul E.
