I think I said up front, there is no code that absolutely needs closures. They just make things easier some of the time, so you can complete your task faster. It comes down to this: http://people.cs.umass.edu/~yannis/law.html a version of Moore's law, that claims programmer productivity doubles every 6 years. Improvements in languages and software understanding surely have a lot to do with that. Those of us who have been programming for a while should be asking ourselves, "has my productivity doubled in the last 6 years? And what am I going to do to double it again in the next 6 years?" Staying on top of current tools and techniques is an important component.
