The last time I used a block editor the clipbord function was
available by copying/cutting lines into a buffer, which could be
pulled back, one line per keypress, as in the nano editor. 

To create a gap in the text you could move blocks, so adding or 
inserting text needs manual layout planning.  

Would a pointing device help much to navigate a 16 x 64 text 
window and a small group of single control key initiated 
commands?

Adding a block editor to a small system with spare flash could
upgrade it to a full development system accessible remotely via
a serial connection. (In the rare case where you might need or
prefer this)
