Forth is the oldest interactive language in the embedded world — you type a line, the chip compiles it and answers back, right then. For decades that meant a bare-bones terminal with no editing, no undo, no file management. Then someone had the obvious-in-hindsight idea: bolt a modern editor onto it through the Language Server Protocol, and send each line of Forth to the real silicon over a debug wire. That's LiveCheck. Every completed line is compiled by the actual chip on your bench — and the ok/error lands right in the editor gutter, next to the line you typed. Because it's built on the standard LSP protocol, it works in any LSP-compatible editor, not just one. And because every previous line compiled cleanly, the chip checking your line is also checking your dependencies — no separate dependency management needed. Then there's the part that turns a crash into a hiccup: when the board locks up in a loop, you hit control-C, which sends a hardware reset down the SWD wire at the pin level — the chip doesn't even need to be running to receive it. The editor spots the reboot banner, knows everything it checked before is gone, re-uploads the project, and keeps checking. Self-healing development. If you've ever wanted to feel a microcontroller respond to you — not hope it works, but know it because the silicon told you — this is what that looks like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kX0_aMhOJg Produced with the help of AI without which this video would not have been possible
