The genetics involved are well understood, and are taught in middle school, if not grade school. The (real) animals in that illustration are all diploid and at each genetic locus could have carried at most two alleles: the paternal one and the maternal one. For this reason in a pair of animals there are at most 4 alleles per gene. In a small population if any of these alleles are deleterious the inbreeding which most follow results in morbidity and/or mortality in the homozygous progeny. Due to statistical effects, some of the alleles may be lost in the first few generations, further reducing genetic diversity. When picking any two animals from a large population the mostly likely outcome for most genetic loci would be that all 4 alleles would be the same, that is, no genetic diversity at all. When an infectious disease comes along that is fatal for that allele, but not to some rare allele which was not included in the founder population, the entire population may die. David Mathog

God programmed the diversity which exists into the original of each kind.
Those kinds reproduced passing along variations of combinations of genes
which express themselves, resulting in modifications of the appearance
and traits of those offspring, but always containing a downward migration
away from the full set of genes present in the original of each kind. It
is an ongoing loss of information, resulting in an ongoing specialization

I've mostly seen just the 'against' side, because Rick Hodgin is in my killfile for precisely this reason so the only bits of his that I get to see are the bits quoted by others, which are presumably the funniest or stupidest of his claims (and some of them are very stupid and quite funny). But we all know that Rick Hodgin is a religious nut, and we expect that kind of thing from religious nuts. What shocks and saddens me is the behaviour from the irreligious nuts. The quality of debate has been dreadful. Look at the quote above, for example. "The truth comes out -- Fossil proves evolution is a reality" - well, firstly, anyone who has ever written a GA knows that evolution is a reality because they've used it in their programming. More importantly, though, does anyone seriously think that one fossil can /prove/ any scientific statement? The whole point of science is not to prove things but to /explain/ things, and the simplest explanation that fits the facts is considered to be top of the leaderboard. Scientists are notorious for overturning received wisdom. In 400 years' time, they'll be looking back on us poor ignorant savages in the 21st century who actually thought evolution was the real explanation of life's diversity because the concept of zanuplection hadn't yet been devised. How some of them will laugh at those who thought evolution had been proved! Prove, Ken? /Prove? Really /prove/? What about the other "scientists" here? Do they think a single lump of fossil can prove anything about anything, either for or against? Contribute to our knowledge - maybe. Overturn previous errors in thinking - maybe. Form an important link in a chain of evidence to support a particular line of reasoning - maybe. But *prove*? Rick is a religious nut. We all know how religious nuts behave. But everybody in this thread who has opposed him has shown that they, too, are nuts, in their own special way. Not just Ken, but the lot of you. This is a C programming newsgroup. Allow me to reiterate so it's completely clear: DNA emphatically,
wholly, and in every way possible, disproves evolution.
Evolution is a lie of Satan designed to deceive people into believing
there is no God, or if there is a God the He's not the God of the
Bible because evolution runs directly contrary to the Biblical account.
DNA is so complex, so nuanced, so encrypted, so reliant upon so
many factors all being in place ... it summarily, categorically, and
masterfully, disproves evolution.
Period.
Jesus Christ created all things. It was designed, and He really is
our Creator, and for those who receive Him, our Savior.
