He is, or at least was, a vital person for the C world. C as we know it
would have been very different without gcc, and gcc would not have
existed without RMS.

We don't /need/ to discuss his situation at all - what is happening to
him now has no bearing on C. But he is a person of interest to many
here, and Jacob marked the thread as OT. If you don't want to read
about it, don't read the thread.

This person is a gcc expert. It would be impossible to list all
references to gcc emitted by this person here since years.

Obviously the injustice done to the author of gcc is "off topic" here,
only his works are on topic.

Not reading any news, I learned about the scandal from this
thread. I am appalled by the ease with which a man's
reputation and career can be ruined by a misquotation of him
in the media. It is the slandering reporter that should
have been fired with disgrace.

The cowardly management of MIT and FSF are betrayers because
they believed, or pretended to believe, slander about their
employee aparently without any investigation or cross-
checking with Stallman himself. So utter a fear of false
accusations in the press is ridiculous. It should be the
other way round: the press should fear to accuse someone
wrongly.

It is wrong to punish somebody for his views unless he
openly professes to follow them regarldess of the law. For
example, one may not object to sex with children yet abstain
from it because it is currently illegal.

Companies, people groups, assemblies of people, they are all
within their rights to remove anyone from organization if
that individual's values do not align with those of the larger
group. The U.S. government has FORCED some restrictions on
that ability, such as religion, sex, etc., but those are still
cases that have to be met in law, costing money, time, and
it may not be in an individual's best interests (or ability)
to pursue those ends as it draws additional attention to it.
And as I have personally learned through companies that have
found a way to let me go, there's a way to let anyone go no
matter how good their work is, no matter how much positive
contribution they might have. If someone doesn't want you in
an organization or company or group or whatever, there are
ways to out you.

And for the individual with such disruptive positions on a
great many things, why would someone want to work where they
are so disruptive? It's only so you can spread your views
and pollute the people around you with such perversion, as
we are seeing in so many avenues of life today. Even formerly
cherished and sacred and hallowed institutions like the ideals
underlying our branches of government, the reverence and re-
spect my generation grew up (in the 70s) being taught about
how to respect those chambers, the offices, and to give and
show respect to the people who hold them, even if you categor-
ically disagree with them on issues. I disagree with Tulsi
Gabbard on political issues, but I have contacted her Tulsi
2020 campaign multiple times telling her how impressed I am
with her, and giving her some guidance on things I think may
help her campaign. She's a thinker, and we need such vision-
ary people in politics on both sides.

No. This world is changing. People are moving off in every
possible perverted alternate direction. Such a society can-
not continue. Even our founding fathers wrote that the U.S.
Constitution can govern a religious people. It is wholly in-
adequate to govern an irreligious people. And we are seeing
that come to fruition presently as the liberals in this nation
are rising up and throwing truth to the ground, being willing
to do or say anything, not caring about consequences because
they surround themselves with a type of insulation against
ramifications, so that the people around them will protect
them.

It's not how it's supposed to be. It's not what Jesus teaches.
It's not what will stand on Judgment Day. Yet people run full-
speed into those flames of lies and embrace them with such big
embraces like nothing else.

> For
> example, one may not object to sex with children yet abstain

People must look to God for ultimate guidance on morality and
ethics. Such people were to be stoned in the Old Testament
under the law. Why stoning? So that disruptive influence
would not be given a voice in the community, so that it would
not have the opportunity to influence others.

God is COMPLETELY SERIOUS about the day of judgment coming.
The views people hold to which are against His teachings will
TOTALLY FAIL THEM on Judgment Day.

The only hope we have is to follow Jesus, to be those good and
honest and upright and conscientious people He calls us to be,
in service to Him and His Kingdom FIRST, and then to ALL of the
other areas of our lives.

AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE ... WE **WILL** SERVE THE LORD no matter
what comes. He is worthy of our full faith and trust and reli-
ance. He is God ALMIGHTY, not a weak an incapable lower-case g
god. His name is Jesus, which means "God Who Saves," and we
will learn His NEW NAME in Heaven, after He then HAS saved us
(past tense) and we have received the full salvation on that
great and final day.

On Earth the 8th day is when circumcision takes place. The
excess flesh is removed. In Heaven, there were seven days of
creation. Six of work, one of rest. Then the 8th day began,
which is ALL OF ETERNITY THEREAFTER.

The covenant God gave us for circumcision is a FORESHADOWING
of what will come after the 7th day (after Jesus' Millennial
Reign here on Earth, which is the years 6000-6999 as by God's
calendar (from creation until now). From Adam to Jesus was
just under 4,000 years. From Jesus to now is just about 2,000
years. We do not know months for ages given in the Bible, but
we are in the latter half of the bell curve right now of POS-
SIBLE timeframes. It won't go on much beyond the late 2020s
or early 2030s. And there's the question about whether or not
that timeframe was suspended for the ~33 years Jesus was on this
Earth, from about 4 B.C. to about 29 A.D, meaning it would be
in the late 2020s that it is then 2,000 years later (or two "days"
in God's perspective). Six days of creation, one day of rest
(the 1,000 year reign of Christ is one "day" in God's perspective),
taking us up to the year 6,999. Then, when the year 7,000 would
begin, it would be the beginning of the 8th day, when the REAL
CIRCUMCISION of the EXCESS FLESH takes place (where people are
cast into Hell) and the true ongoing covenant with God is ful-
filled in reality, not just in promise.

WAKE UP PEOPLE! Learn of these things. It's all about to hap-
pen. We see the signs growing in every corner. And all who
will not seek the truth will miss them. But for the discerning,
the truth-seekers, the ones who do not desire to be deceived,
but desire to know the real truth about all such matters, they
will find it, and they will be saved.

BE ONE WHO IS SAVED! You are valuable and precious beyond
words, and Jesus DID come down here to the Earth from Heaven,
putting on a flesh body so He could meet us where our sin is
and rescue us here and lead us back to where He is. He did
this for you. He did this to make you part of His Kingdom.

Seek the truth. And ask forgiveness for your sin. Jesus WILL
forgive you. And you WILL be able to be a part of His eternal
Kingdom, in a body like the angels that never ages, tires, or
wears out. Never has hunger or thirst, never feels pain, but
is always at the absolute top of its game continually.

That's the vehicle God prepares for everyone who will "motor"
around His Kingdom paradise, exploring the full range of our
abilities as He has provisioned, without the limitations of
sin imposed upon us, but fully restored to the way God designed
us and intended for us to be with Him, in fellowship with Him,
having unlimited resources at our disposal to create master-
pieces of creative expression and all by His provision for us,
and His glory in creating us.

Consider these things when you are alone, at peace, no dis-
tractions, just you and your thoughts. And ASK GOD TO SAVE
YOU. Ask GOD TO FORGIVE YOU. Ask JESUS TO BE YOUR SAVIOR
AND LORD.

I would like to see you in Heaven if we never get a chance
to meet here on Earth.

Please, consider this group of ours. All of its members,
whether believers or atheists, seem to be annoyed by your
off-topic religio-philosophical sermons but have no way to
out you. Whenever I need a sermon, I go to a local church
or another newsgroup.

Please consider that there will be no atheists on Judgment Day.
Please consider that unless you know Jesus Christ as your Lord
and Savior, your soul will be cast into the pit of Hell for all
eternity.

It's important, Anton. It's more important than ALL other
things. It's why I post these messages (because I care about
you and do not want you to wind up in Hell).

He's a loony-toon. Logic and reality are foreign concepts
to hodgin. Don't expect him to respond to reason.

If he worked for me, I'd find a way to let him go too. Too
disruptive for a workplace.

If you don't repent before leaving this world, you will remember
this statement made against me on Judgment Day, Scott. And it
will eat through you like acid as it consumes your soul before
your very eyes.

PS -- Until you seek the truth, it will be forever hidden from
you. People may think someone's loony-toon because they
teach about salvation of their soul through Jesus Christ,
but I used to think that about Christians too. I sought
the truth for real in 2004, and I found it. All who will
seek to know the truth, and not just to assert blindly
their own personal beliefs, all of those people will be
saved because Jesus is truth, and He knows who it is who
is seeking Him (even if they themselves don't yet know or
      recognize Jesus as truth).

PPS -- You are valuable, Scott. Don't throw it all away. Seek
the truth INDEPENDENTLY OF ME. Go to the Bible and read
for yourself. Don't let your personal hatred of me pro-
hibit you from finding the truth. Too much is riding on
it to let pride destroy you.

I wrote to Mr Stallman the following message:

----------------------------------------
Subject: You didn't do anything wrong

You tried to defend Mr Minsky, your friend. He is dead now, and can't
defend himself.

I never spoke/meet you but I find that your attitude of trying to defend
the honour of a dead friend stands out in this times of generalized
cowardice.

As you may know, Gregory Benford, that was also at that island with
Minsky, reports that the girl approached Minsky, but Minsky refused.
Apparently you did not know that.

All this hate against you disgusts me deeply. Your contribution to the
community will stand, however.
--------------------------------------------

Mr Stallman answered:
--------------------------------------------
[[[ To any NSA and FBI agents reading my email: please consider ]]]
[[[ whether defending the US Constitution against all enemies, ]]]
[[[ foreign or domestic, requires you to follow Snowden's example. ]]]

   > Minsky, reports that the girl approached Minsky, but Minsky refused.
   > Apparently you did not know that.

I did not know that at first. I assumed, like everyone else in
the discussion, that Ms Giuffre said she had sex with Minsky.

We know that Epstein forced her to have sex with various men
(including Epstein himself). He made her a sex slave. She did not do
any of this willingly.

The point I raised is whether Minsky would have known she was
enslaved.

Your email is confusing.

1) Yes, a doctor has nothing to say about malloc/alloca, it is not his
domain of expertise.

2) Imagine, in an email thread/discussion about malloc/alloca some
doctor says some stupid remark. Should he be fired from his job, and
expelled from the clinic he founded?

I do think that destroying the entire life work of a person because
he/she said something wrong in an email discussion thread is so utterly
beyond reasonable that I am suspecting that Mr Stallman was ousted for
other, undisclosed reasons.

While I appreciate your point, let's have a /little/ perspective here.
No one has "destroyed RMS's entire life work" - the free software world
(and the "fork" of which he disapproves, the open software world) is his
life's work, and that is most certainly not destroyed. The people who
matter to RMS - programmers - will continue to have the same respect for
him and his work. He has never been unduly bothered about people who
judge him for his non-technical opinions, and I don't expect that to change.

I don't think it was right to fire him (or force him to resign) for this
email. But it does not surprise me that he was finally pushed out - he
holds loud, controversial opinions on a wide range of topics and the
beaker was bound to overflow at some point. If he were not so famous
and respected for his technical (and legal) work, he'd have been ousted
long ago.

Employers have to stand up for the rights of their employees - but they
also have to think of their wider responsibilities to their company,
university, organisation, etc.

And what is your point with this sentence?

As soon as he is no longer needed you can fire him just like that?

To say his unfortunate opinions on things that are not gcc or C language
are off-topic.

> As soon as he is no longer needed you can fire him just like that?

The more I hear his opinions on things that are not software, the less I
can respect him. Better he slip away with the respect he's earned than
use his podium to further demean sex slaves with biased opinions about a
dead man.

I've now read RMS' original message and the one to Jacob, and I don't
see him demeaning anyone in either message.

Why don't you start a campaign to reinstall him at the helm? Do you
think injustice has been done to remove him or to force him out? Is he
gay? Do you know this? Perhaps this might be some gay
persecution!!!!!!! Our resident religion expert would know this!!.

Apparently this "Eli the Bearded" thinks that if you repeat a lie again
and again, people will believe it.

The only person telling lies here is him.
