Not sure why you'd use a URL shortener that hides the actual site. That
kind of thing *could* be used to spread malware.

It redirects to
https://media.tilde.zone/system/cache/media_attachments/files/108/718/484/208/150/753/original/d91a0a2e3b8d6fb8.jpeg

It seems harmless enough, but not really worth clicking. It's a cartoon
with the caption "I lied to you. We're not gonna watch netflix. I will
teach you C programming".

Though, to be fair, the show the image is from is "Serial Experiments
Lain" which was computer-themed and did at least show C code at one
point IIRC (though more as a background thing).

Not exactly a new show, came out around the time I was in middle school
during the late 1990s...

At the time the show came out, Netflix was still based around mailing
out DVDs and having users mail them back. Though, the show doesn't
appear to be set in the same universe, so it is unclear if Netflix would
exist in the first place (show also depicts use of ISDN, which would
have been a stretch for things like online video streaming).

I used a URL shortener because my news client rejects lines longer
than 80 characters.

Enclose the URL in angle brackets:

<https://media.tilde.zone/system/cache/media_attachments/files/108/718/484/208/150/753/original/d91a0a2e3b8d6fb8.jpeg>

Then it does not matter how it is split across lines - it will still
work with any decent newsclient. This has been the standard practice
for decades, for email in particular.

(Disclaimer - I have not bothered looking at that link.)

looks like an anime where a pretty woman (too skinny for me) is going to
teach somebody how to program C instead of watching netflix. She lied.

At this point, the URL just gives a XML file which says amongst
other things "The specified key does not exist."

From the description, I think I've seen it before, eg. here:
