Hi All,

I do not understand C.

Is GtkWidget a built in function or is it a system call?
For example:

GtkWidget *notes_vbox;

Many thanks,
-T

Actually you do not understand the web too:

https://www.google.com/search?q=GTK

Very funny. I know what gtk is. I don't know
how C attaches to it. Is it a system call
or a module in C that makes the system call.

Is GtkWidget a library in C or the direct system call?

I am looking for a missing dependency.

If you really knew what GTK is you wouldn't ask trivial question.

Just dig a little more into your brain to figure out the answer.

You'll have to find a way to learn some. Follow a tutorial or, if your
are very old-fashioned, read a book. Even knowing a little will allow
you to answer the sort of question you've asked here.

> Is GtkWidget a built in function or is it a system call?

Neither. It's a type.

> For example:
>
> GtkWidget *notes_vbox;

This says that notes_vbox is a pointer (that's the *) to a GtkWidget.
The type, GtkWidget, says what kind of thing notes_vbox will (once
properly set) point to.

Now it makes more sense. I see something similar done in Perl
where things are populated with data based on the pointers
reference address.

Thank you!

"I do not understand C", if you don't understand C, then why are you programming in it?
GtkWidget is a type, not a built-in function or a system call. Despite Gnomes problems, they do have very good documentation: https://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stable/GtkWidget.html

Why are there so many crabby people in this
group? And I am not programming in C. I am
just trying to find a missing system
dependency in someone else's code.

People get warped by decades of strange postings like yours. Only now
do you tell up what you are doing but, of course, you give us no way to
actually help -- no mention of any build error or what the code is or
anything like that.

If you want help finding this dependency, tell us what you know about it
rather than asking questions about tiny part of the C language.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for trying anyway. I am currently caught up in RPM Hell
at the moment.

I am not going to give anyone a homework assignment to
dig through someone else's code. I really only wanted
to understand a couple of things that were confusing me.

Speaking of which, to give back to the non-jerks on this site
for helping me, to share code, the Perl 6 developers
have me use the following web site:

http://vpaste.net/

You paste your code there, it gives you a link, then you
tell everyone about the link. It is very handy.

-T
