And I just recently corrected Richard for making the same kind of
mistake! Thanks for pointing it out.

Sorry James and Ben. All the nice things I said about James also apply
to Ben.

I appreciate the endorsement - but he was responding to what you were
saying about Ben, not me. I'm sure he'd say equally nasty things about
me - but he didn't do so in that particular message.

I'm not the kind of person to do so, but many people would see something
to gain in avoiding the appearance of having been incorrect - it's
pretty embarrassing. I'm used to the embarrassment, and if I lied, I'd
expect to be found out, which would be even more embarrassing. However,
according to Jerry, I've exceptionally good skills at deception, so
being found out is not something I should have to worry about.

Which leaves open the question: if I've got such skills, why didn't I
use them to avoid the many previous situations where I've been publicly,
embarrassingly, wrong?

One of my favorite pieces of software was a program named MaxThink
dating back to the mid 1980s, designed for MS-DOS 2.11, which continued
to work fine all the way through Windows NT, and also when using DosEMU
on Linux. It actually worked better under Windows NT. There was an
opening sequence containing several pages of text, that ended with the
display of a phone number for contacting the developer. Under MS-DOS
2.11, that opening sequence disappeared from the screen too quickly to
be readable. Under Windows NT, for some reason, it executed a lot
slower, and for the first time I found out about that phone number -
which had long since been disconnected.

I haven't owned any newer versions of Windows, so I haven't tested it
with them.

It's Ben you're actually talking about. In the past, I was often
unconscionably irregular about keeping backups, and have occasionally
paid the corresponding price in lost data and lost applications.

You *think* it is *less likely*. ROFLMAO! And there is a huge
difference between software that is 20 years old and software that is 31
years old. 1995 there was Windows NT, and software from then is still
supported.

I have no reason to think he has software from 31 years ago. Plus, in
the days before the internet, copying from computer to computer was much
more difficult. Few people had networks; at best they used null modem
cables and copied files one at a time with a terminal program.

Because I know the tools from 31 years ago - and you don't.

And where's your comment about the "diskette straw man" you referred to
above? Maybe because you have no idea?

Not exactly "at best". On the Amiga, you could connect two machines with the
parallel port and access the other Amiga as a /drive/. I think you
underestimate the power of computers in the 80's, because everything you say
about 30 year old systems seems to apply more to 40 year old ones.

The Amiga was released in 1985. It wasn't for at least a couple of more
years before someone came out with the software to connect two together
via the parallel port.

Not that it makes any difference. The Amiga and Commodore were both
failed attempts. A nice try, I admit. But a failure.

Yes, 1988, which easily classifies as "before the internet".

There have been all kinds of niche systems which have failed in the
history of computing. I'm not talking about those.

But you're arguing just to argue - as you are so fond of doing.

As usual, you narrow down the requirements AFTER you're proven wrong.

Nope, no narrowing down the requirements. Just ignoring niche systems
that have failed. They aren't worth talking about.

But trolls will try anything, just to argue.

Almost 5 million units sold. What a failure indeed. But hey, you have to try
something when you can't bear the idea of admitting that you're wrong.

As I said - a niche system that failed. 5 million units is less than
the number of PC's that sell in a month.

Not in the 80's. By your standards, every computer from that era is a failure.

Who said anything about in the 80's? 5 million is the TOTAL number of
Amigas sold - over several years.

My god, at least try to remember what we're talking about, I'm not going to

You're wasting your time mate.

Jerry Stuckle is playing a game. No amount of evidence is going to get
him to change his mind about anything or acknowledge he might be
mistaken. And he's probably getting out a kick of people wasting their
time going to all that trouble.

Oh, I admit I'm mistaken when I am. Unlike you, Bart. Your head is so
far up your arse that you can see your tonsils. And you use it to argue
from a position of complete ignorance.

Oh, I remember what we're talking about. You said there were 5 million
Amigas sold. That's a niche market, with a failed product filling it.

But you don't even remember what you said! Who has gaps in their gray mass?
