#59728 — How do you upload a pdf to the clc wiki?

SubjectHow do you upload a pdf to the clc wiki?
Message-ID<mfvqqe$6bp$1@dont-email.me>
I would like to add the document I prepared about the discussionstrtoll
etc here to the wiki. As administrator "Flash Gordon" is named but he
hasn't posted here for a long while.

If anyone here has write rights in there please let me know how can I
update that stuff.

Thanks.

P.S. I would like to contribute to the project that wanted to rewrite
the standard library. It would be a first contribution since that
project pages are empty.

Get yourself an account. Then use the "Upload file" facility (look at
the bottom of the left-hand-side list).

I wasn't aware that such a project existed. If you mean "document"
rather than "rewrite", then sure, go ahead. If you really do mean
"rewrite" as in deconstruct and build up from scratch, I'm not sure that
I see the point.

Well, that is the problem. Nowhere do I see anything to create an account!

The closets I got was:
http://www.clc-wiki.net/wiki/clc-wiki#Contributing_quickstart

All that's required to make an edit is an account, which you can create
by clicking the link at the top of the page

There is NO LINK at the top of the page!

The only links at the top are:

project page discussion view source history

It's quite well-hidden, I agree, but it really is there, lurking at the
top right corner of the page. You may need to unfold this URL, but I
think you'll find that it works.

http://www.clc-wiki.net/mediawiki/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&returnto=Special%3AListUsers&type=signup

If it's any consolation, I had the same hard time finding "log in", when
logging in for what appears to be the first time in nine years or so.

No, neither could I.

It is very well hidden indeed. There is an icon so small I can't see
what it it supposed to be that has a roll-over menu with "create
account". It's simpler to find by viewing the source, or by using a
text-based browser like Lynx, than it is by conventional means.

Obviously the text "which you can create by clicking the link at the top
of the page" should be edited to be (or include) a link to the right
page so that the whole hunt-the-link game can be avoided, but when I
created an account to do just this, I was told that the page in question
is protected. Is there any contactable administrator, or should we
consider the wiki moribund?

I think it /was/ moribund. I haven't even looked at it for about nine
years. But when Jacob mentioned it, I logged back in (remembering the
password was a challenge!). It seems to have had a somewhat lacklustre
decade. I've tried to breathe a little life back into it over the last
few days.

There is still a contactable administrator who seems to be able to mend
things. (I tried to upload an image file, it failed, I contacted him,
and he fixed the server permissions, so presumably he has a reasonable
degree of administrative access.)

If you add a message to

http://www.clc-wiki.net/wiki/clc-wiki_talk:Config:Wiki

I think you might have a fighting chance of attracting his attention.

Disclaimer: no, it's not me. :-) I have no real idea of who he is. His
user name is 'Laird'. I don't think he's Mark 'Flash' Gordon, who is the
guy that originally set up the wiki (and who, remarkably, is presumably
still funding the Web space).

Hi, yes, that's me. Flash has given me root access on the server hosting
the clc wiki. I helped set up the wiki all those years ago when going
under the pseudonym "Netocrat".

I've just added PDFs to the list of file types accepted by the file
upload page, so hopefully it should work for you. Please let me know if
it doesn't.

There was/is a (vastly incomplete) project to write, in the process of
documenting it, a portable implementation of the standard library,
abstracting those parts that could/can not be implemented portably. You
can see, for example, on the page documenting string.h that the
non-portable components __np_size_t and _NC_RESTRICT link to the page
intended to collect non-portable stuff:
<http://clc-wiki.net/wiki/C_standard_library:string.h>. I no longer
recall why __np_size_t was considered necessary, but _NC_RESTRICT seems
easier to understand.

My fault - when I first wrote the Treeview skin for the wiki, I thought
I was helpfully saving screen space by tucking account links behind that
LED. Later, I realised that it unhelpfully hides functionality, but the
wiki was by then so disused that I didn't bother to fix it. I've just
made an attempt now - please let me know if it's worked.

Better. But the login link is labeled "Log"; "Log in" would be clearer.

Odd, I can't reproduce that on any of the browsers to which I have
access; they all have "Log in" already. Which browser+platform are you

Nvm, I hadn't checked the main page, it seems it was only occurring
there. Seems to have been a caching issue - I reset the cache epoch and
the problem seems to have cleared up. Please let me know if you're still
experiencing the problem.

It looks good now, but I'm not using the same system where I saw the
problem.

This probably isn't the best place to discuss this kind of detail. I
presume your "nospam@..." address is not valid. If I have more issues
with the web site I'll send you e-mail (though the image on the contact
page on your web site isn't loading). Or should I post on the wiki
somewhere, perhaps <http://clc-wiki.net/wiki/Talk:Main_Page>?

Oh dear, technical problems abound this evening. The image loads from my
home machine and from the clc-wiki server, so perhaps it was a temporary
glitch and if you try again it will be fixed. If not, the "alt"
attribute for that image describes how to construct my email address in
words if you're willing to view the HTML source. Or you can edit

Glad the upload worked. I've added a link to it under [[C resources:Code
and design]], but if you want it to be part of an attempt to rewrite the
standard library, then perhaps a new top-level entry is needed in the
hierarchy, perhaps below "C standard library", something like "C
standard library (alt)" or "C standard library (ext)", depending on what
your plans were for the rewrite. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Apologies, Jacob, I didn't read carefully, I see that your code
implements existing functions in the Standard, so it fits perfectly
within the existing "C standard library:stdlib.h" section. I'll try to
be more attentive in future.
