gcc/clang, both are better then alternatives.

I suppose, you are asking about "native" compilers rather than "cross".
Best by which criterion?

Quality of diagnostics?
Usable debuggers?
Availability/integration of additional tools (static code analysis, memory leak detection, profilers)?
Frictionless installation of the dev tools?
Frictionless installation of the of the resulting binary away from dev environment?
Integration with IDEs/quality of IDE?
Speed of compilation?
Speed of the resulting binary?
Size of the resulting binary?

Most people aren't good at asking questions, and need to be prodded.

That said, I suspect "Usenet Advocate #1337" is just trolling.

What a silly thing to say!

If I asked *you* what your favorite color was, in what possible way would
*my* preferences have any bearing on the matter?

Well, if you are a guy, and you tell me that your favorite color is pink, then we could assume that you either prefer other guys or that you prefer to be viewed as a woman who...I'm just saying...

If you only know a little bit about programming, you probably know that there are many C compilers available. However you don't necessarily know which features are valued by professionals. Obviously code efficiency will be a consideration, but assuming that the compiler is reasonably efficient, how much weight should you give to that? Ease of installation, the richness of the option set, the quality of warnings, compilation speed - again all plausible things to consider, but not necessarily too important.

So a sensible response would state what the responder values in a compiler, and which compiler on the market best fulfils those requirements.

In that case it doesn't matter what you use because all of them can
compile a "Hello World" program without much problems!!.

The OP is just trolling but a if he is using a Windows system (look at
the headers of his original post) then the only compiler he can use is
the one that can run on Windows. There is no point in thinking about
Linux or Apple Mac. On Windows the branded compiler with IDE are
Visual Studio and Embarcadero(free tools) - the two I have on my
machine(s). I don't have anything else because my main interest is dot
net and C#

It's been a while since I've used migw, but if I recall correctly, it's not an IDE. However, I could be wrong.

Of cours it's not an ide.
But I'm asking which IDE he uses on top of mingw.

Why would you assume that any IDE is used?

I suspect you're trolling again.

It's likely because developing without an IDE is a
pain when you are not writing very small programs.
