That's what he thinks he's doing, and he's not interested in your point
of view. He wants this newsgroup to become a religious debating ground
for Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Judaists, Atheists, and all the
rest of them, and to hell with the topic.

Presumably he doesn't harangue customers at his local shops with
religious diatribes every time he pops out for half a pound of carrots
or a bottle of wine, or get thrown out of libraries for soap-boxing.
What makes him think comp.lang.c is any more appropriate a place than
the shops or the library for his proselytism is anyone's guess.

I think that's a bad presumption - I don't see how he could possibly say
what he did above, and not apply it in those locations. Possibly he's a
hypocrite, and only actually behaves that way in contexts (such as
usenet) where people can't punish him for his rudeness. But that
wouldn't be my first assumption.

yeah.

some of us though would rather keep our beliefs to ourselves unless it
becomes actually relevant. like, debating religion or politics in online
forums, rarely productive.

it is one thing to have opinions and beliefs, or to want the freedom
that people can have their beliefs and the freedom to not need to keep a
secret about them for fear of retaliation, and another to try to force
them on anyone who happens to be in the immediate vicinity.

it may be the case that not everyone will agree with everyone else, and
sometimes one person will hold views that the other person considers
"offensive", but whatever sometimes.

overall it is better when every person can make a free choice as to what
it is they will do and what they will believe.

nevermind sometimes if people on the left or on the right want to take
away peoples' ability to freely decide on things (both sides have
particular lifestyles they want to force on everyone).

but, will say, if I said what I really think, probably some people would
take offense. can't have that, because everyone is a precious little
snowflake who can't dare be offended, or tolerate that anyone may exist
who doesn't approve of their lifestyle choices, ... rather annoying
sometimes, but whatever...

(like accusing everyone who doesn't agree with their particular views or
lifestyle as being a "intolerant closed minded bigot", rather than, you
know, them being the closed-minded bigot for not willing to be tolerant
that anyone exists who doesn't agree with them...)

or something...

Incorrect. I do not debate people. I teach them about Jesus Christ,
and (generally speaking) I answer questions, though I don't always
answer the question that's asked, but teach on the subject that
relates to the question that was asked.

I wear a hat that, instead of saying "Intel Inside" with a swoosh,
says "Jesus Inside," and "Jesus <3 You". You can find them here,
though this one says "I LOVE JESUS" on the side where mine says
"Jesus [Heart] You":

If you want to protect this newsgroup from becoming a religious debating
ground, you are going about it in *exactly* the wrong way.

Right, because you're Not Interested in what we have to say.

You may think so, but I think you're teaching them about Rick C Hodgin's
Personal Theology, which isn't the same thing at all.

So, as I suspected, you don't harangue people in public. Well, Rick C
Hodgin, this is a public newsgroup, and your haranguing is no more
welcome here than it is there. The only real difference is that your
local shopkeeper or librarian can summon law enforcement officers to
deal with your anti-social behaviour, whereas here we have no recourse.

I am concerned about this, because it's counter-productive. You make
out, by your example, that Christians are anti-social, ignorant, and
poor theologians to boot. Who in their right mind would want to become a
Christian if to do so required them to behave as boorishly and rudely as
they see you behaving?

The moral equivalent in comp.lang.c is a sig block. Think of the sig
block as your hat, your badge, your bumper sticker, or even your pulpit.

The sig block is up to four lines of up-to-80-column text following the
sequence "-- \n" (two dashes, a space, a newline) at the end of your
article. Its contents do not have to be topical. A sig block can be as
preachy as you like and nobody will have any grounds for complaint.

Point out where I'm wrong and I'll backup every statement I've made
with multiple scripture references conveying the concept, if not the
exact wording. And if and where I cannot, then I'll admit my
mistake and adopt the correct understanding, because I seek the
truth in coming to understand and in following Jesus Christ.

As people keep telling you, this newsgroup is for discussing C, not
Christian theology. Find a group where Christian theology is topical,
and ask in there.

Theologically.

But in response to this particular reply you offer, I offer this:

You are not a Christian. It is not possible for you to understand
what I am doing for this reason:

    http://biblehub.com/1_corinthians/1-18.htm
"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish
foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power
     of God."

And:

    http://biblehub.com/john/6-44.htm
"No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent
me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day."

God knows every man's heart. Those who have an ear to hear the
Lord will be drawn to Him and be saved. The rest will perish.

I pray that all here in comp.lang.c who can hear His voice humble
themselves, acknowledge their sin, repent, and ask forgiveness,
that they too may be given eternal life.

    http://biblehub.com/proverbs/14-12.htm
    http://biblehub.com/proverbs/16-25.htm
"There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end
thereof are the ways of death."

And for that woman you're sleeping with, or having an affair with...
this is her true appearance:

    http://tinypic.com/r/fld2q8/8

But the "good news" (the "gospel") is that you CAN be forgiven.
Everything is in place for you to be forgiven. You just need to
approach Jesus Christ humbly, truthfully, and ask forgiveness,
with repentance, and He will forgive you.

It's like a house that needs painted. The house can be there.
The supplies for painting (paint, buckets, ladders, sheets, brushes,
rollers, sprayers). But unless someone goes and paints the house,
only the possibility of having the house painted exists. It requires
that someone go, get off their duff and do the work.

With the Lord, His sacrifice is sufficient for you. He can take away
your sin as well. All you have to do is get off your duff and do the
work, which in this case is believing in Him, humbling yourself before
Him, admitting you're a sinner, repenting, and asking forgiveness.

He says:

    http://biblehub.com/matthew/11-28.htm
    http://biblehub.com/matthew/11-29.htm
"28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and
I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn
of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find
     rest unto your souls."

Jesus sets men free. It's why the enemy wants so much so silence
Him and all who would bring His message. But His message is that
which people need to hear more than any other thing in their life,
for it is only His message that leads to eternal life. And all
who receive it will live. And all who will not receive it will
perish.

Best regards,
Rick C. Hodgin

It is appointed unto men once to die, and then
the judgement. Jesus Christ sets men free from
that judgement, and gives them eternal life.

I don't know when each of you will die, or when
I will die. None of us do, but I desire to speak
His words until that day. I do so because His
words are spirit, and they are life.

I labor in this world for all who have an ear to
hear, that they may hear, believe, come out
from the world, and be saved.

It is a mission of love, and it is to spare you
from the judgement that stands before you,
getting closer with each tick tock of the clock.

It is a very important matter. Do not dismiss
the Lord, or His call on your life.

We are all called to go into the world and teach, and make disciples,
teaching them to obey all things whatsoever He has commanded, baptizing
them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. People
think that translated word "baptizing" there refers to water... I don't
think it does. I believe it refers to the concept used in cooking, such
as you baptize pickles in some recipes, first dipping them in boiling
water, then in vinegar. They come out changed through the immersion,
which I don't believe is only water immersion, but you are instead to
surround people with knowledge and example of the Father, Son, and the
Holy Ghost, immersing them in that knowledge, as it were.

This realization is not from a study of other people's works, but an
understanding of who God is, and what He would be commanding us to do.
The verse leading up to that command in Matthew 28:19, comes from
Matthew 28:18, which reads:

     http://biblehub.com/matthew/28-18.htm
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given
unto me in heaven and in earth."

All power. He is ahead of all things, and in our lives He is to be
placed ahead of all things, and not just in our lives, but as the
light shining around us in the darkness. Jesus is that light, and
unless we speak about Him, and teach others about who He really is,
the only witness people will have about who Jesus Christ is comes
from that which the enemy will teach, and they, through sin, will
be all too willing to hear. But when the truth is taught, it has
a different call, a different voice, and some people will hear it,
and come out, and be saved. It is for those people we labor.

> I suppose we should all be impressed by your
> dedication. :-/

It's not just here, Morris. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I
have been changed from the inside out. Jesus died for me, and took
away my sin and gave me eternal life. That is no small thing. It
is the biggest thing with regards to me that could ever happen.
And because of who He is, and because of what He's done for me, and
because of what He offers to all other people on the planet, I reach
out and speak about Him and teach. Some will hear, most won't, but
it is for those who will hear I labor, and it is for those who will
hear Jesus gave us that command in Matthew 28:19, the so-called
"Great Commission."

Perhaps someday Jesus will move you to reach out and teach so that
the false teaching about who Jesus is, what sin is, why sin is
damaging, and why we need salvation from Jesus Christ, won't come
only from Satan, but rather the truth will come from you, a disciple
of Jesus Christ who speaks about Him in this world, fulfilling the
Great Commission.

Here's a movie to encourage you to get you started:

     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEFOw5ZYnqM

The people in that philosophy club meeting had only heard falseness
from the world about who Jesus is. The teaching of the truth changed
people's thinking, and that call of the truth was heard by some there.

It is important to do this, Morris. More important than other things.

Best regards,
Rick C. Hodgin

It is fortunate then, I suppose, that it apparently doesn't really matter how
you interpret the Bible. If you say water baptism is not necessary, and
someone else says it is, then that has no effect on either of your ability to
"be saved", right?

Of course that makes me wonder if perhaps one is free to substitute
some personal interpretation of resurrection for the historical understanding
of the word. If there's no "right" interpretation, then I guess you could.

On the other hand, if there are a "right" and a "wrong" interpretations of
any particular passage in the Bible, then it seems pretty important to
figure out what the "right" one is, because your eternal salvation or
damnation may well depend upon it.

Maybe it's just that Rick C. Hodgin happens to know all the "right"
interpretations and the thousands, if not millions, if not hundreds of
millions who had other ideas about the doctrines taught in the Bible
were just "wrong", and are perhaps condemned to eternal damnation
because of it. That would be convenient for him. Unlucky for everyone
else.

Seems kind of odd to me that God would make eternal salvation
dependent on knowing and believing the right doctrine without
