If we're counting CPU instructions, compare the number of instructions
executed to allocate a VLA on the stack vs. the number of instructions
executed for a call to malloc() followed by a call to free().
Figuring out how to generate code to allocate VLAs correctly might be a
little tricky -- but that work has already been done.
