Why not?

> memcpy(dest, src, bytes);
> dest[bytes] = '\0'; /* to null-terminate the target */

In the function in question, the bytes being copied are at the end of
the source string and therefor include a null.  By just using the right
size you can use a single memcpy call with no separate termination.

Or a call to strcpy!
