Ah, so you're checking sizeof (int32_t) for the purpose of checking that
CHAR_BIT==8. I did figure out that that's the consequence of that
check, but it wasn't obvious (at least to me) that that was what you
meant; I assumed that there was some sort of typo.
If you want to check that CHAR_BIT==8, why not just check that
CHAR_BIT==8?
