#1092 — Delete gnuplot

Dear all,
I have updated via Macports to Gnuplot 4.6. It was in the end far easier
than doing the compiling by hand. I have now two gnuplots.
One is under /opt/local/bin/gnuplot, the other, older one under
/usr/local/bin/gnuplot.

I compiled the gnuplot under /usr/local/bin/gnuplot on my own, but how
do I get rid of it now, i.e. uninstall it, please? In the meantime I
changed my pc and lost the old config files. I hope that is not bad now.
Thank you for your help.

Kind regards
Gudrun

If you compiled it yourself, presumably it's not incorporated into your
package manager? If that's the case, can't you just delete the files?
You might need to search out any (symbolic) links, I suppose... If
there are any.

If it is being managed by your package manager, then you'd use that to
uninstall it.

Cheers

Peter

Dear Peter,
Thank you for your feedback.
I am on a Mac. There is no package manager. I have to say I don't know
which files I have to delete now? Not sure where gnuplot installs
things? But maybe it is not so much space eating, I have to live with it?

Thank you.
Gudrun

PS: What do you do with old Gnuplot versions?

The canonical method would have been to "make uninstall" in your build
directory. But:

You don't need much in terms of config files. You only need the
sources, so you can do some variant of

	./configure && make uninstall

Duh! Yes. Of course.

Cheers

Dear Hans-Bernhard, thank you for your answer. I just have to download
gnuplot 4.5.
Do one configure and one make uninstall?

Thank you!
Gudrun

If it's version 4.5 you're trying to uninstall: yes.
