I would like to have a plot with a pale yellow background and
black points. How do I specify these? The plot will be either
gif or jpeg.

And which is more compact, gif or jpeg? I want to display plots on
a homepage.

Re background for a png image, (perhaps better than gif or jpeg), see

Re point color, in gnuplot type

Thanks. I note that the example is for png. Of jpeg, gif and png, which
is best suited for a picture on a home page? I have a suspicion that
I won't be able to get canvas colour for gif or jpeg, though. Will
have to experiment.

For diagrams png should be the best.
