I don't know what is wrong, but the field comes up blank? The same thing that happens when I use the dsum function. What am I doing wrong?

Fieldnames or Fieldtypes maybe wrong. 'Point' must be of type number.
Check your tabledefinition. Test the subselect alone in the qbe without
the where condition.

I put this back in my test database because I know I am not ready to roll it out again yet.

In doing so and playing around and adding chunks I got the RunSum to work, but it is not looking at teammates at all.

CODE:
SELECT t1.ID, t1.Teammate, t1.DateOfAbsence, t1.prevDateOfAbs, t1.DiffAbs, t1.Points, t1.AttendanceCredits, (SELECT SUM([Points]) FROM [DaysSinceLastAbs_RUNNING TOTAL] AS t2 WHERE t1.Teammate = t2.Teammate AND t1.DateOfAbsence >= t2.DateOfAbsence) AS RunSum
FROM [DaysSinceLastAbs_RUNNING TOTAL] AS t1;

Output:

I have just tested your sql and it works as expected. Check your input
table for invalid types or extra characters (e.x. Blanks), particular on
the fields teammate and DateOfAbsence.

Here you can find my testdata: http://1drv.ms/1W8ClJK

Ulrich - that's for the tip. There are no blanks. So, I tried the first query that I called qryAttendance which takes the Attendance and sorts on the criteria I need which feeds the DaysSinceLastAbs and when I switched to that query everything worked out as planned. I am not sure why that query was giving me grief. Now, I will have to use the same approach for the abs creds and see if this in fact gives me their running total! Baby steps and I wouldn't be here without help from this group - thank you! We will concur this 45 day credit thing!! Thank you so much!

Ulrich - I was going to send you my file I couldn't upload it where you sent the link.

I got the point total to sum which I thought I could adjust the code and get the credits to sum up and then simply join the two and get what I need, but for whatever reason, my credits will not sum by teammates - it sums the total for all entries... what am I doing wrong... I have tried a million different ways...

Can I email you the file or is this easiest?

Code:
SELECT t1.ID, t1.Teammate, t1.DateOfAbsence, t1.AttendanceCredits, t1.TotPts, (SELECT SUM([TotPts])
    FROM qryRUNTot AS t2
    WHERE t1.Teammate = t2.Teammate AND t1.DateOfAbsence >= t2.DateOfAbsence
  ) AS RSum
FROM qryRUNTot AS t1;

Output from this:
ID   Teammate DateOfAbsence Attendance
                             Credits	TotPts	RSum
1	Ben	1/20/2015	0	1	9.5

please feel free to send me a little test file, because data and the sql
statement seems to be correct. There must be something else which i
can't see at the moment.

I have tried a million different ways...

Hi Sara,

if have analyzed your queries and the error is a wrong data type in your
iif expressions. These expressions e.x.

IIf([DiffAbs] Between 45 And 89,*"0.5"*, ...

returns string values instead of numerical values as expected by the
dependent calculation and aggregations.
The correct expression would be

IIf([DiffAbs] Between 45 And 89,*0.5*, ...

without the double quotes.

Ulrich
