#9595 — Backstage doesn't hide after click on Button

SubjectBackstage doesn't hide after click on Button
Message-ID<07a6bde3-5350-4c34-b1fd-582f4085b36a@googlegroups.com>
I've some custom buttons in the Backstage View (Access 2010).
After the user clicks on the button the related onAction function works fine (open a form), but ...
the Backstage View doesn't hide.
So, the form open in the onAction function is behind the Backstage View.
The user must click somewhere in the Ribbon to hide the Backstage View in order to see the form.
I've been testing with the MinimizeRibbon but it doesn't always work (only 50%).

Should I configure something in order to hide/close the Backstage View after a user clicks on one button of the Backstage View?

Thanks in advance for your comments.
Regards.
José

Try this

Function HideNavePane(Hide As Boolean)

DoCmd.SelectObject ject acTable, "MyTable", True ' Any object in the
navigation pane will do

    If Hide = True Then
        DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdWindowHide
    End If

End Function

Phil,
It doesn't work.

If I click in any item of the main menu in the Ribbon, the Backstage closes.
How can reproduce this click with VBA code?

It works for me.

You have used a genuine table or form name???? (not Mytable)

This function closes the Navigation Pane (this work fine).
But I need close the Backstage View.

After the user clicks on the custom button of the Backstage View, a form is open, but the usen can't see the form because it is behing the Backstage View. The only way to hide/close de Backstage View is click in any item at the top of the Ribbon.

Allow me first to indulge in a semi-rant: Backstage View is part of
the "new UI", introduced by Microsoft (to the benefit of some 'Softies
who convinced management that it was wonderful, but to the detriment
of many developers and users), including the Nav Pain (almost
universally still known as the Nav Pain among the MVP community). The
very name "Backstage View" confirms to me that some in Redmond view
their business software just the same as entertainment software; have
lost sight that we use Access not for entertainment, but for
productive work.

That said, and it sets the stage for my response, giving the user
access to the nav pain and Backstage view, IMNSHO, indicates that you
don't have a finished database application (and you may be allowing
users access to functions where a mistake on their part could cause
real damage to your business data). It is not difficult to build
navigation into your database application, and the other necessary
business functions... which would just avoid the problem you describe,
and, as well, present a 'finished application' that should make you
feel better about it.

I fully agree with you.

The problem is that the Backstage View (or File Tab) can't be completely removed.
If I hide all of the built-in buttons of the Backstage View, it will appear as a blank tab.

Perhaps the best way to handle this problem will be a Backstage View with only an Exit button. All of my other buttons will be in my custom ribbon tabs.

You might look at the "isDefinitive" attribute for your backstage button.
