Hello ,

Not sure how to explain this but I'm encountering this issues with ms access 2010.

My program is a FE/BE split. When I was developing I had FEv1 linked to BEv1 then after some changes, I copy the backend to a new file and rename it BEv2.

So now FEv1 tables are linked to BEv2. This works fine. The problem is when I tried deleting or moving the old BEv1, the front end would not open at all. I would just get the main Access Screen. If I put back the BEv1 then my program works fine.

I checked the tables and none of them are linked to the old back end file. For whatever reason the FE still being attached to the first Back End file. I tried compacting my work but that did not help.

thank you for any help.

thanks,
CZ

How did you check the linking of the tables?

Hello,

I go to tables section > mouse over Or Table section > Linked table manager. all tables are referenced to the new version.

I did noticed that I never get an error is just that the FE does not open even with Shift Key.

thank for your time.

So , check this out. I removed all linked tables and imported the tables with data from the back-end. Just remove the link table issues.

Even after importing the table, if I move or delte the old backend version, my FE will not open.

I googled this problem but found few instances without resolution besides recreating the program.

In the Front End DB, open a table in Design view (Ignore the error)
On the Property sheet, under Description does it say BEv1 or BEv2, Should
also give the complete path.

OK I'm a bit stumped.
Is there any code in your Dbs? Have you tried decompiling?

Hello I tried everything. The only workaround is to copy the backend and import all forms, queries, modules etc from the Front End and start fresh.

I think the database splitter is doing something that is not supposed to.

thanks for your help.

I've always thought that the Database Splitter was a complex solution to a
simple problem . . . perhaps it even introduces additional problems -- that
can be a problem with complex solutions to simple problems.

Hi,

i have had some similar strange problems with my frontend and i tried to
relink the table with a vba procedure every time the application starts.
But that was not all. In most cases it works for me, but sometimes...

After some searching i found out, that the precompiled querydefs also
have to be refreshed if my backend db was moved or renamed. I think this
is a bug in acc2010 and i fixed it with a second vba procedure. Now all
works very fine again.

Maybe your problem has something to do with this behavior too.

Ulrich
