My Mac is nagging me to upgrade to El Capitan. Currently running 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. Will my fmp12 Advanced work with El Capitan? My program contains some Apple Scripts. Any other issues? Thanks

Ummm, that's a serious problem. Howard

The "nagging" (popup message on the screen) was a new feature added to App Store around the time Mavericks (10.9) was released. Earlier systems (Snow Leopard 10.6.x, Lion 10.7.x and Mountain Lion 10.8.x) got a software update called "App Store Update 1.0". Part of that update was a "noticeboard" launch agent which periodically checks with Apple to see if there are any messages to display. I've observed pop-up messages suggesting upgrades to later OS versions (Mavericks and Yosemite, at least) about once every two weeks, typically each time I start up an occasionally used virtual machine running an older system. I haven't seen any since El Capitan was released. Perhaps they've changed the schedule and CRC123 got unlucky. If you never installed that software update, then your system won't be checking for or displaying the notices. If you have no Internet connection, the notice mechanism can't check with Apple. If your Mac is not able to upgrade to a later system than Lion, Apple might have got smart and stopped sending the notice to incompatible systems. There is also the banner advertisement in App Store (on the Updates tab), but you won't see that unless you run App Store. That banner ad appears whether or not your computer is compatible with the later system. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz
