#2514 — Script Editing

Is there some way to cut, copy, and paste in the script editor,
particularly copying parts of one script into another?

As always, I'm still on FMP 8.

It does not work very well and it does require the advanced edition.

You can import scripts and edit them as needed. Best practise may be to
split scripts into modules which you use within other scripts.

FMP is based on manually clicking most of the staff. That's just the way
it is... With both its advantages and disadvantages....

Thanks, Martin. This has been my experience but I was hoping that I was
wrong.

The "put it into modules" approach often works, but not when it's a 5-
1-line snippet of code that needs to be inserted into several scripts.
In the case I'm working on, the snippet is a loop containing an
if-statement, where the if-statement will have code specific to the
script I want to copy into. The termination condition of the loop also
depends on the receiving script. The advantage of copy-paste is that it
reduces the chance of typos, which scripts don't catch at all.

Another sometimes useful option is to create one script (or the main
repeated bit at least), then duplicate it in the script list window and
tweak them.

OR

Possibly use one sub-script and have the main scripts pass it the
individual start / stop requirements in variables or Global fields.

The problem with having them all as separate scripts is of course if
you later find a mistake or need to make a change, then you have to
edit each script individually.

Try to make those script independent from context by passing these
specific info as script parameters.
