I'm trying to tip my toes in sever side scripting, and running into a
couple of problems:

1 ) I'm trying to install the free plugin "BaseElements" on the server;
I've set the Owner:Group, and rwxrwxr.x permissions, and still get the
oh so helpfull error "Pluging not loaded".
Anyone have any ideas on that?

2 ) I'm try to do a simple script to find a set of records that meet a
computed critea:
a varible, unstored, that does the following calculation [ if
(on_order + on_backorder > On_hand + Rec_Today + On_Vendor_Order, 1,
"") ]
try to do a find on that varible = 1, errors out with "error 16",
basicly it dosen't like the find for some reason.
	Any ideas on this one?

THANKS !! for any and ALL help.

Most plug-ins need to be installed on the user's computers, not the
server ... unless the server is running scripts itself that rely on
that plug-in.

Did you quit and restart the FileMaker Server? It could simply be that
the plug-in doesn't actually work with the Server version of FileMaker
or perhaps requires a different license code.

If you really mean "variable", then my educated guess, not having used
them, is that variables are not stored per record and therefore are not
usable as the target in a Find request.

You'd be best using a new Calculation field, and then performing the
Find on that.

In terms of a Server, Global Fields and variables are unique to each
user (rather than stored on the server for all users) and lost when the
FileMaker user quits, which makes them either useful or useless,
depending on what you're trying to achieve.

this is a pluging made to be used in both contexts [client and server]
I actually did restart FileMaker server as well as the Mac it is
running on several times.
I found out that the plugin on the main page for download was v14 only
(would've been helpfull to have that displayed), and changed it out for
a v11 specific one; and think I have that problem solved,

Harry;

NeedsToBeOrderedFlag: Calculation unstored
If((Customer Open Orders + Qty On Back Order) > (Qty On Hand + Vendor
Open Orders + Received Today);1;"")

	Enter Browse Mode []
	Show All Records

Go To Layout ["Qty's to Order"]
	Enter Find Mode []
	Set Field [NeedsToBeOrderedFlag; 1]
Perform Find [] ----here is were it borks on the server but not on client

THANKS Harry for the responce and Help!!!!

Can this calc field be stored/indexed, or are one or more of its
components necessarily unstored? That might help with the server-side
finds. I've seen situations where some finds unexpectedly don't work on
server and I have seen this as a factor.

Howard;
unfortunately the calc field CANNOT be stored / indexed; I kinda
figured (after some trial and error) that the storing / indexing might
be a problem in the find.
But I tried to loop though the records and set a regular field to the
calc field, and that action bowmbed too. Can you not use a calc field
at all in a server side script?

Of the five fields that make up the calc, are any of them in a table
that is in a separate FILE? Server-side scripts cannot see other files
unless they are set up just right. It's the craziest thing, but we are
told it is NOT a bug. Server-side scripts see each file NOT from the
point of view of the calling file, but from the point of view of
starting from scratch.

Normally on a hosted file that is on the same server, regardless of
which folder it's in, your file reference to another file would just be:

	file:TheOtherFile

But a server-side script doesn't know where that is. So for each file
reference that I have to define, I include these three lines (all in the
same definition; if FM can't reconcile one, then it will try the next
and the next:

	fmnet:/xxx.xx.xx.xxx/TheOtherFile
	file:CorrectFolder/TheOtherFile
	file:TheOtherFile

Let us know if that helps with your issue.

Howard
