Problem: If you have a date field in Filemaker and import records from
Excel, you get the dates correctly.

This does not work for xls or xlsx created with Numbers or
LibreOffice[1]. I used to take the dates into pieces in the spreadsheet
app (day, month, year), import these and put them together in Filemaker.
What a drag.

Solution: save the sreadsheet as dbf rather than xlsx (yes, I slapped my
forehead).

[1] Can no longer test this, I don't have Numbers. Filemaker 11 and 13
on OS 10.7 refuse to accept xlsx files created by LibreOffice.

I think it's a bug in Excel, and a long-standing one.

I've recently been working on Excel spreadsheets, both saved as .xls,
but one from a web-exported CSV file and one from an .xlsx. Dates
simply copied from the pre-CSV file and pasted into the pre-xlsx file
stupidly gained one day. :o\

Dates imported from the pre-CSV file (saved back to a CSV) into
Filemaker worked properly.

Helpful Harry :o)
