What is the best way to compress FAT32 drives under Win98? UPX works well but only on executables. AppZip crashes every time I use it. WinMount is simply incompatible. I also want to compress information from within the DOSBox environment. --------------- Joseph Rose, a.k.a. Harry Potter Working magic in the computer community

Don't know about the last point, but Windows 95 & 98 included a disk compresion utility call DoubleSpace/DriveSpace. Also search for "Stacker" -- Roberto Waltman [ Please reply to the group, return address is invalid ]

Only 2.1GB is usable, but I don;t want to go trough all the work to repartition and reformat the whole hard drive. DriveSpace only recognizes FAT12/16. > Also search for "Stacker" I tried. I found limited information on it and don't know where to get it or even if it supports FAT32. Thanks, anyway! I can still compress floppies, though, but that would only give me ~2.7MB a pop.

If you right-click a hard drive in Windows 9x there should be an option to compress the drive. It definitely works with FAT32 drives.

I currently don't have access to the computer in question, but I'll try to remember that. Thank you. :)

Thank you. :) I read online that DriveSpace doesn't support FAT32 compression. : ( Any other ideas? BTW: I have been using WinRAR to compress the data and batch files to uncompress it for use and recompress it after use. I even use a RAM drive for temporary storage.
