Square really is a no BS sort of deal. There's never the typical what
cards do you want to accept ala carte fees like with typical merchant
processors. Imagine paying $20 extra a month to have the privilege to
maybe swipe a discover or amex card. That's how it used to work.

When I had a normal merchant account with access to the internet payment
gateway, metal plates for an card imprinting machines (no idea why they
kept sending that junk to me or what prison they were made in) and all
that jazz, Wells Fargo was pretty good. You will get nickle and dimed, or
more like tenned and twentied with incessant bullshit feeds like the
annual security self audit, which was only $40 at the time, plus the
discount rate doubles for corporate cards and crap like that. It's just
not worth the hassle these days unless you have a really good reason to
need it.

If you take square payments over the phone, there is an additional, tiny
charge. You do need to enter the card into an android or apple phone or
tablet as they do not have a PC based virtual terminal. The card swipe
devices that plug into a phone are free these days. You can create an
online store and let people key in their own card info at no extra charge.

We never got international cards to work though, big deal. That stuff is
sketchy to start with though.
