A former Irvin High School girls track coach arrested last month
is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl at his home and
at a park, according to court documents.

Bryan Everett Stewart, 34, was arrested in Kansas and extradited
to El Paso, where he faces two counts of improper relationship
between an educator and student.

When questioned in May during an investigation by El Paso
Independent School District police, Stewart allegedly admitted
having a relationship with the girl but denied having sex with
her, according to complaint affidavits obtained by the El Paso
Times.

The documents filed by EPISD police alleged that Stewart and the
girl had a relationship during the 2017-18 school year.

Stewart was a health teacher and the girls track coach at Irvin
High School.

The girl, who is not named in the documents, was a student at
Irvin who has since transferred to another school.

Began flirting
According to the complaint affidavits, the girl told a forensic
interviewer at the Child Advocacy Center that it all began with
Stewart flirting with her in August 2017.

The girl was at the book room at Irvin High when Stewart
"approached her and complimented her on how nice she looked,"
the complaint states.

"The two of them flirted with each other during the school year"
and Stewart convinced the girl to join track, the complaint
states.

Documents state that the two became friends on Facebook,
exchanged phone numbers and would text message each other, with
Stewart suggesting they use a communication app named Line.

The complaint states that Stewart and the girl flirted and sent
photos to each other. The girl said told the interviewer that
Stewart sent her shirtless photos of himself and that she sent
him photos of her wearing only a bra. No nude photos were shared.

The girl told the interviewer that the encounter occurred around
March. EPISD police determined the incident took place April 7
when Stewart's family was in California on April 6-9.

The girl told investigators that she and Stewart allegedly had
sex a second time, this time after a track meet in his truck
parked at Nations Tobin Park on Railroad Drive, documents state.

An EPISD police investigation determined the second sexual
encounter occurred on April 10 after the District 1-5A track
meet.

Documents mention that EPISD police learned of the allegations
on April 19 and began an investigation. An EPISD spokesman said
Stewart resigned from the district on April 20.

Stewart is the son of Leon Stewart, a former longtime football
coach at Irvin.

Stewart denies allegations
The complaint states that Stewart "denied the allegations and
refused to cooperate with EPISD District Officials."

In a May 24 video-recorded interview with EPISD police, Stewart
denies having sex with the girl. He admitted taking her to his
home but claimed they only hung out, documents state.

Stewart also admitted to being with the girl at Nations Tobin
Park but denied having sex and again claimed they only hung out,
the complaint states.

The complaint alleges that Stewart contacted the girl on her
cellphone from an unknown number after she had left Irvin High
School.

Stewart allegedly asked the girl to lie to police about them
having sex and "advised the victim that she would only get in
trouble for lying but he would go to jail," according to the
complaint.

When questioned by EPISD police, Stewart claimed that he had not
had any contact with the girl since the investigation started,
the complaint states.

Arrest in Kansas
A warrant for Stewart's arrest was issued July 24. A few days
later, the U.S. Marshals Service learned that Stewart had left
El Paso and had gotten a job in Kansas.

Stewart was returned to El Paso after being arrested Aug. 9
during a traffic stop on a Kansas highway while U.S. Marshals
were on his trail.

Stewart is currently free on a $50,000 bond after being released
from the El Paso County Jail on Sept. 1. The case is pending in
court.
