Homosexual Brooklyn teacher arrested on child pornography charges

A Brooklyn high school teacher was arrested on child pornography 
production charges Wednesday, as investigators revealed he used 
social media to lure his young victims.

Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences teacher Jonathan 
Deutsch is charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a 
child related to images and videos of children that the he 
targeted online, federal court officials said.

United States Attorney Richard Donoghue said Deutsch, 34, of 
Brooklyn, targeted his young victims on Facebook, using the site 
to solicit and receive sexually explicit material from minors.

“The protection of innocent children is an utmost priority for 
this office and our law enforcement partners,” said Donoghue. 
“We will continue to make every effort to ensure that those who 
contribute to the exploitation and victimization of children 
will be brought to justice.”

Donoghue said the FBI and NYPD collaborated in collaring 
Deutsch, whose image was still on the Leon M. Goldstein website 
as of Wednesday, where he was listed as a teacher at the well-
regarded school.

According to court documents, Deutsch used the names “Sam 
Morgan” and “Jay Stern,” to engage in sexually explicit 
conversations with minors ranging from ages 10 to 16.

Using the fake names, Deutsch told his victims “he was a teacher 
and into drugs and children” and he convinced kids including a 
transgender 13-year-old to send him naked photos.

FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William F. Sweeney Jr. said 
parents should remain vigilant against sexual predators, 
especially since criminals can easily contact children online.

“Our children deserve to grow up in a world where they don't 
have to face overcoming the horrors and scars of sexual abuse,” 
Sweeney said. “The fact that this suspect was a teacher makes 
this crime even more egregious.”

Yana Grinberg, 52, who lives in Deutsch’s Coney Island apartment 
building, said the twisted teacher never showed his dark side to 
his neighbors.

“It gives me shivers,” Grinberg said. “It just goes to show, you 
never know.”

At Deutsch’s arraignment Wednesday afternoon, Assistant U.S. 
Attorney Megan Farrell said Deutsch "systematically targeted 
vulnerable children on Facebook."

Deutsch had "highly sexual conversations" with dozens of 
children, according to Farrell.

"His behavior was calculated, targeted and extremely effective, 
sadly," Farrell said.

Judge Robert Levy ordered Deutsch held without bail, citing his 
potential to harm kids.

City Education Department spokesman Doug Cohen said Deutsch was 
pulled from the classroom in January when officials learned he 
was under investigation.

“These are extremely disturbing allegations, and Mr. Deutsch 
will remain reassigned away from students,” Cohen said. “We will 
seek his removal from payroll and termination as soon as legally 
possible.”
