Mother of Teen Girl Murdered by MS-13: Many People Have Called Them 'Animals'

A mother whose daughter was murdered by MS-13 members praised 
President Trump for drawing attention to the violence 
perpetrated by the brutal gang.

16-year-old Kayla Cuevas and her best friend, 15-year-old Nisa 
Mickens, were brutally beaten and stabbed to death by several 
members of MS-13 in Brentwood, New York, in September 2016.

Cuevas' mother, Evelyn Rodriguez, joined Trump, law enforcement 
officials and other family members of MS-13 victims at a 
roundtable event on Long Island on Wednesday to discuss 
combating the gang.

Trump has called for a nationwide crackdown on MS-13, whose 
motto is “kill, rape, control.”

"It's great that he is aware that we have an issue here on Long 
Island with MS-13, and he's giving great support to law 
enforcement and just giving it the attention that it needs in 
order to get things done," Rodriguez said.

She said there is a lot of work to do, but the crackdown by law 
enforcement and the presence of more resources and professionals 
have already had positive results.

"You can see the difference in the community," Rodriguez said. 
"You can actually see kids playing in the parks, you see kids 
riding their bikes, which you haven't seen in quite some time."

"It's not 100 percent, but it's getting there. It's a long run 
and there's a lot of work to be done. But it's started and 
there's a process."

She took no issue with President Trump choosing to label MS-13 
as "animals," arguing many people have said the same thing.
