There is no url bar with any usenet client I have ever
used, I just click/tap on the link in the body of the post

Doesn't work properly in NewsTap on an iphone either

In that case it just drops the trailing ) and wiki asks
if the full link with the ) included is what I intended

I'm just saying the original link that didn't work for you was copied 
from the FF url bar and pasted here

Nothing to do with the browser used, everything
to do with what the usenet client passes to the
browser when you click or tap on the link
