It matters not who they are owned by, the issue is that it was/is a
private company beholden only to shareholders and *not* owned by the
government!

In fact it does matter when the power station is owned by an operation that can sell more of its gas if the power station is shut down. And its stupid to allow that to happen given that the gas in the SE corner of the country is running out and the coal isnt. And govts are less willing to do maintenance on power stations due to their stupid ideological position too.

Yep, brown coal, the lowest grade most polluting coal you can use in a
power station - but if it's all you have ...
On that score, Germany has lots of brown coal that, due to the loss of
Russian gas, they are being forced to use again - including resurrecting
mothballed coal fired power plants. I said way back that depending too
much on that Russian gas was a bad thing - they could end up being held
to ransom - and Russia indeed did try.

Quite possibly - or maybe some prescient soul in the Bundestag had a
clue on possible future scenarios. I must admit, the scenario that did
play out was what I had already anticipated - Germany being held to ransom.

The "Greeness" of a solution has nothing to do with the cost, only their contribution to global warming. You obviously have no descendants, I and many others are willing to pay more for electricity if it means a better quality of life for our great grandkids, and their their future generations. Not to do so is pure selfishness.

There is another issue - no investors are willing to put investment
money into coal fired power stations any more, new or refurbished,
because they won't get their ROI in a reasonable time span, a time span
that is foreshortening rapidly.

Given that you have bragged about your international travel here more than every other poster combined, in addition to the fact that every single bit of that international travel seems to have been for no reason other than your personal entertainment, I find this ridiculously judgemental comment here to be absolutely fucking offensive in the extreme and an insult to the intelligence of anyone who reads it. You have absolutely *zero* right to *ever* accuse anyone else of being "selfish". You can always rely on ol' Fraudster for a laugh. Such faux outrage! So melodramatic! Such irrelevance to the topic! And of course... So very desperate for support for his diversion that he employs the old 'spokesthing' tactic. Now aside from the tireless reminding you that, at best, you speak for about three people, the thing here is that none of those three have any intelligence to insult. You are a buffoon Gibbens. Always have been, always will be. alvey

And who knows! One day it may be true. However in this case I believe that the vast majority of Richo's plane travel would have been before climate change was widely known. Fraudster is just thrashing about in his usual inept and abusive manner because people aren't swallowing his blustering bullshit. alvey -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. www.avast.com

Given that you've bragged about the purchase of 2 large vehicles this year, the emissions from their construction and transport would easily match or exceed those from the one trip that I have made. Then of course I use at least 25Kwh less than the 35Kwh per day electricity that you use, every day of the year. > You have absolutely *zero* right to *ever* accuse anyone else of being > "selfish". You're dealing with a person who doesn't even understand the concept of
*per capita*, and that's one of the simpler ones. Therefore you cannot
expect this moron to understand even more complex concepts - like some
of those in this link;
https://youmatter.world/en/category-environment/plane-or-cars-which-means-of-transport-pollutes-the-most/
And, yes, I don't expect Darren to get the gist of this link.

Doesn't matter. Richo has stuffed up here by trying to play the Hypocrite card against Fraudster. Trouble is that Fraudster is one of those stupid and selfish mouth-breathers who doesn't care about CO2/global warming etc. alvey -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. www.avast.com
