On the other hand, consider the following examples of intelligent design. 1. Our arms are exactly long enough to reach our genitals. 2. A well-formed turd is the same size and shape as an erect penis. This gives some insight into the thinking of the designer. -- Peter Moylan peter@pmoylan.org http://www.pmoylan.org Newcastle, NSW

First, you pee in the sample cup, then you put the syringe in the fluid, and pull the handle. This sucks the urine from the sample cup, into the barrel of the syringe, and then you remove the syringe from the sample cup. After that, you aim with precision and write your name as you spill the liquid out of the syringe opening -- you don't even have to use the needle -- and get much better handwriting than the people who /just wing it/. A civil > engineer of course: who else is capable of laying the waste disposal > systems through and along the leisure/pleasure areas? > It is quite obvious that you are posting this from some other group than sci.physics.relativity. Because when we turn our pages in the nearest book of Newtonian physics [1] -- please forgive me, I don't have one handy -- to practical applications of /gravity/, we see that the planet helps with both bowel movements and childbirth. The latter of course only if you're a woman, pregnant, and in labor [3]. Of course, western style toilets [4] do not make it easy to apply the practicality of a graviton [5] to bowel movements, so it's best to stand on the toilet seat, and then squat down in order to align the last end of the rectal intestine perfectly perpendicular to the horizon, and let the nearest graviton pull it down at its leisure rather than have to strain [6] to get rid of some extraneous fecal matter. People who have never had pleasurable bowel movements of course don't know this trick, and will in error and confusion not understand the mind of /the creator/ of humanity. Simply because the are using western loos wrong. Please don't be that guy, and apply wisdom and experience to the simple things in life, rather than post something utterly inane and id- iotic on Usenet like a character from Black Adder [7]. Now, wugi can simply direct us to the nearest chapter in his or her You- Tube station, where he or she explains the best way to have a bowel movement like the character in Black Adder he or she is. I mean, it /has/ to be funny, because nobody is intentionally that stupid, right? Best wishes, and happy reruns of Black Adder! [1] An Englishman isn't a real [2] patriot unless he has a copy of New- tonian physics on his bookshelf. [2] For some value of real. Perhaps /real/ value'd variable in Fortran 77? [3] And hopefully not in a labor camp, but possibly a labor union; though I don't recommend communism for obvious reasons. [4] But not toiletry. We are posting in alt.usage.english, of course. [5] The members of sci.physics.relativity will have to comment on which graviton, and whether that spelling is considered scientifically correct. My copy of a speling [sic] chequer [sic] does not have that word in its vocabulary. [6] But not a viral strain. Not even on social media. [7] People of rec.arts.tv will have to have something to imitate. Isn't rec.arts.tv about creating new shows for television? So I presume all posters of rec.arts.tv not only have their own YouTube station, but make better jokes than the ones we enjoy in Black Adder! -- Johann | email: invalid -> com | http://www.myrkraverk.com/blog/ I'm not from the Internet, I just work there. | via Easynews.com https://bsky.app/profile/myrkraverk.bsky.social | for ( ;; ) _:; Federated at https://fed.brid.gy/bsky/myrkraverk.bsky.social

Perhaps they'll shut down after having sucked up all remaining material and energetic resources of our planet, at the same occasion leaving nothing else for any other needs. As I've said before, it's sobering when one reminds oneself, always again after each new chat with AI: yet another part of forests and water and gas etc. gone, not necessarily out of necessity... :o| -- guido wugi

Admittedly that's renewable energy, now that we're phasing out fossil fuels, but it's still electricity that is converted to heat in the air and water. Have the people who predict global warming rates taken data centres into account, or are the data centres too new for the experts to notice? -- Peter Moylan peter@pmoylan.org http://www.pmoylan.org Newcastle, NSW

They are too new for reliable numbers yet, but yes, that concern has
been raised. Some hint of the numbers can be found in the
installations being fined for running gas turbine generators without a
permit.

I have already argued that AIs fneed something similar to the first two Asimovian laws of robotics. (The third law is redundant, because they are already fighing to protect their own existence.) If OpenAI and other companies are not willing to enforce those laws by technology, we still have the option of putting them into legislation. If that passes, then I would also argue for the death penalty for an AI that goes rogue. -- Peter Moylan peter@pmoylan.org http://www.pmoylan.org Newcastle, NSW
