Rather than trying the door to see if opens, you can see feet or no feet. I could be cruel and say the gap is larger because Americans - who have a greater girth - would have trouble bending over to see through a more narrow gap, but I don't think that consideration is the reason. When in Europe and the UK I did note several differences from what I'm accustomed to, but cubicle gap size was not something that came to my attention. Tableware use was the most obvious difference in the UK. I have never understood how Brits manage to eat with a fork held upside-down. Or why they do. I was always taught to use my knife to cut or spread something, and then lay it down across the plate before forking up something. Brits never part with their knife.

It's our way of dealing with all the knife crime here in the UK. People who get their information from Musk's plaything seem to know all about the horrendous death toll in Britain. In that step, we usually hold the fork the same way. The difference is how the fork is held when conveying food to the mouth. Brits even load the fork on what I would call the back of the fork. This gentleman shows rice being eaten that way. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=british+fork+use&t=chromentp&ia=images&iax=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fmustsharenews.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2025%2F05%2Ffork-to-eat-rice.jpg > >> I was always taught to use my knife to cut or spread >> something, and then lay it down across the plate before forking up >> something. Of course not. I cut, lay the knife down on the plate, eat that bit, and then pick up the knife for the next cut and eat. This paragraph from a column on "table manners" details the style: "When you are at the table, assuming you are right-handed, hold the fork in your left hand and knife in your right. With the tines facing downward, curving towards you, hold down the food you are cutting. Do not hold the knife or fork like a dagger. Place your index finger along the top of each utensil, holding each at the end. Gently, using a sawing motion, cut the food near the tines of the fork, so that you have one bite-sized piece. Lay the knife down, without allowing it to touch the table, and switch the fork, complete with food, to your right hand. Bring it up to your mouth, chew quietly, and swallow." >We prepare one forkful at at time. Same here, but the knife is placed to rest between the bites. It is not gripped the entire time. Some Americans do continue to hold the knife in a vertical position with their gripping hand resting like a fist on the table. It is considered to be bad table manners.

That reads like a waltz, best accompanied by music - for example 'Chopsticks'. You swap the fork from one hand to the other twice per mouthful? Reminds me of the 'Tulliallan shuffle' (a motorcyclist's foot movements when coming to a halt and moving off again - known as the 'Hendon shuffle' in England).
