I meant, 'had' they won with the 'winning' goal scored by
Balogun... who shouldn't have been playing... which wasn't a
scenario that happened.

I wasn't on about the actual goal they did score! 

In fairness, the last sixteen was about their limit anyway. 
Very few people who watch football expected the USA to get much
further. So they did as good as they could do. The USA didn't
need all the fuss that Trump brought on them.

A special case that I'll comment on below.

Incorrect English, at least in my dialect. I agree, though, that in AmE
the distinction between adjective and adverb is fading; and
Merriam-Webster is primarily a dictionary of AmE.

Now, back to "I feel good". After "I feel", either an adjective or an
adverb is acceptable, and the meaning depends on which one you choose.
But it's more complicated than that. By strict grammar, "I feel well"
should mean that my fingers are good at feeling things. That meaning has
become rare, to the point where "I feel well" is almost almost a comment
on my state of health.

In fact, I would say that in the utterance "I feel X", X can be the
/adjective/ "good" or the /adjective/ "well". (With different meanings
in the two cases.) By drift of meaning, "well" has become an adjective
in this sentence.

Coverdale's translation of the Psalms was commonly used in Anglican
services up until about the 1970s, when other translations began t
replace it.

it's still used in what bbc radio 3 broadcasts afaict.

but my thinking is that "flat earth conspiracy" is a recent thing, and
fall into a class of the conspiracy propagana campaigns, (in this case
retrofitted to a constructed-out-of-cloth world-view-of-the past that
portrays some class as idiots but working in a social structure where
those who are accused of belonging to that class automatically become
idiots and are fit for excommunication and killed from society, and
their properties legitimately eschated..., while giving a sense of
purpose and intellectualism to those who campaign against the same
strawwomen conspiracy theories...)

but the conspiracy theories themselves have little original relevance or
truth value, the only relevance is in this larger context, and only for
the target audience of those engaged in the debunking, as part of the
propaganda campain, controlling their thinking and their consumption
pushing whatever agenda and policies that the bankrollers happen to be
pushing..
