oprit/afrit = onramp/offramp

inrit/uitrit = entrance/exit

Great, isn't it? Two false friends in one word.
BTW, your French background is showing again:
correct Dutch is 'trajectcontrole', (one word)

Want some more background?

I'll give you some: madame, vélo, peignoir, bougies, joint de culasse,
merde, miljaar, nom de dieu (nondedju), remorque, camion, camionette,
perte totale, gendarme, carroserie, moment suprême, sacoche, ...

These are just some of the words we use in daily speech. And here you
are, thinking you could "shame" me for the infleunce the French language
had on us? Oh, poor, poor, Jan.

Yes, I wrote it like we say it. It's used as a curse, for instance
'miljaardedju' (milliard de dieux).

Then it would've rather been
madam, velo, penjwaar, boezjies, jwandkulas,
mert, miljaar, nondedju, remork, kamion, kamionet,
pertotal, zjandarm, karrosserie, momansupreim, sakosj ;-)

Mais oui, 'Mille millions de mille milliards de mille (sabords)' !

The English translation is poor. (as so often)
'Blistering Barnacles' may be alliterating,
but it lacks the possibility of naturally piling up multitudes,
like it should, to accommodate his rages,

Just someone with a better eye for the peculiarities of Belgian Dutch.
(than you have)

This is not at all exceptional: outsiders usually have a better eye
for peculiarities than native speakers.
This forum is of course a perfect illustration:
AmE and BrE speakers for example see each others peculiarities in usage
much better then the natives in these dialects can,

Well, as an outsider I can confirm it's true what they say about

Wales can compete on a 'speed changes per mile' basis.

When going to where our caravan is stored, there are 6 speed limit
changes in less than 3 miles. This is all on the one road except for
the last few yards.

Sounds like Botswana, which must run a close second.

I once drove off the main road into a small town to look at something
or other, and rejoined the main road a litte further on, having missed
the speed limit sign, and got a ticket just over the next rise.

Why don't post in French newsgroups?

Why posted it in alt.usage.english
& alt.english.usage ? :)

NOT IMPORTANT AND NOT A PROBLEM; I'm just curious.

Why didn't I start this thread in a French newsgroup?

Well, fr.soc.politique is a cesspit (c'est le far west là-bas), and in
the other French groups I know that aren't dead, it would be squarely HC
(hors charte).

> Why posted it in alt.usage.english

Why did I start it in aue?

Aue is nicely flexible. On y parle de tout et de rien, sans pour autant
perdre de vue le sujet de fond. We exchange without limits here, while
always returning to English usage.

> NOT IMPORTANT AND NOT A PROBLEM; I'm just curious.

That, indeed, was my impression.

Posted to aue only.

And my point of view is in any case the British one (readers of a
sensitive disposition may wish to look away now): Fancy that! The things
that go on abroad!

I'm not sure that he is a troll in this sense:

"[...] a person who posts deliberately inflammatory messages online [...]" -
<https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/troll>

People can be annoying, post too much, have no respect for netiquette,
and so on, without being trolls. We have a couple of resident ones in
aue. Others may start by being annoying, then learn the ropes and become
less so. I suppose the essential criterion is: does the poster take
notice of feedback or just… troll on in his own way? (This is a
different sense of 'to troll', in BrE.)

It's a tricky thing. If such a person poses a sensible, legitimate
question, does it deserve no response?
