Someone in the thread added "alt.usage.english" to the thread and
directed a question to the readers of this group. It's right up there
in the quoted text.

You should pay attention to what is included in the post before

It's used in one of my favourite poems by Ogden Nash:

'The Cow' The cow is of the bovine ilk; One end is moo, the
other, milk Malcolm

I think the traditional phrase is “of that ilk”:

    The cow is a bovine of that ilk;
One end gives moo, the other milk.

Interesting thought. Today one could 3d-print cuneiform tablets, albeit
probably better with raised characters instead in impressed to use less
material. You could probably use some stone/concrete-like material
instead of clay.

The origins of Sumerian cuneiform are well known. See the two volume academic
work _Before Writing_ or the single volume abridged _How Writing Came About_,
both by Denise Schmandt-Besserat.

It's not about good, evil and ugly.

It's not about colors and shapes.

Not about symbols.

Why do you need power? Why do you wanna
wield the Force? Why? Do you really
need the thing you dream of? Are you
walking the wrong path the moment you
stepped on it?

Why do you suddenly have power?

Dear Mr. Chang Man-wai, I believe you underestimate the average
life expectancy of Usenet posters. I was raised on DOS, so to
speak, and it indeed had graphics without Windows. My first
graphical application was called Darklands, and you can get this
application on the GOG electronic galaxy, if you care to test it
yourself.

It was a minor annoyance that I had to choose to boot into Windows
for /office applications/, and not for the Darklands graphical appli-
cation, but learned to live with the decision at boot time.

Happy adventures in medieval Germany!

Not me, but my younger sister. She's working

Why are you so obsessed with Darklands?

It's NOT exactly a "graphical application",
but just a game, a role-playing game.

Seems that you wanna travel back in time
to medieval Europe for some unknown reasons.
Is it because you have some unfinished
business back then?

Darklands (video game) - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darklands_(video_game)

"The setting for Darklands is medieval Europe. All of the cities that
one's party may visit in the game are real places that existed in the
Holy Roman Empire of the 15th century. Most are in modern-day Germany,
but some are within the modern borders of other countries in Western and
Central Europe, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France,
Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland. The cities are
referred to in the game by their Old German names, some of which are now
exonyms; the new local names are given in parentheses."

So this video game is to bring back the Dark
Age to Europe by destroying the Holy Roman
Empire before it's established?

Well, as it turns out, I was never very good at Darklands as a teenager,
I guess the complexity of a role playing game got me, and I gave up on
playing. I have now re-acquired the game on GOG, and will hopefully go
through the story of /Medieval Germany/ all over again sometime in the
near future.

So my /unfinished business/ is less Germany, and more the game. After
all, why have DOS compatible computers if we can't game on them?

Have a nice day playing Darklands!
