I only make my own when I need to feed the cable through places where the plugs won't go and I put the plugs on after feeding the cable. -- Chris Green ยท

Absolutely.
But sometimes you have too. Like having cables going out of the ducts in
the wall into a cabinet and avoiding installing a patch panel, but
connecting directly RJs into the switch.
Or needing non standard lengths.
