I have worked together with Marek on a couple of scripts in the past,
and we kept contact. To the best of my knowledge, Marek unfortunately
left these mortal realms in October 2017. He was only 49 years old.

Marek was suffering from several life-threatening medical issues, and it
had already been a close call a couple of times. He was still under
medical treatment for a blood clot in his left lung during my last
communications with him ─ he even kept in touch with me while he was at
the hospital. However, the blood thinners they gave him had some very
nasty side effects, and presumably that would have been the cause of
death.

Don't believe anything Snit says, by the way. Apart from being a troll
who's been bullying GNU/Linux users for well over 15 years already, he's
also a pathological liar and a sociopath. I've had my own dealings with
him in the (by now luckily distant) past.

Eternal September is having problems right now. Looks
like index damage. Posts from May26 are being re-delivered
as if they were new messages.

For the time being, treat what looks like necroposts from E-S with suspicion.

Looks like something will need to be re-built on the server.

See "eternal-september.support" for details.

Yeah, I noticed it when I was looking at the other newsgroups. My news
reader is set up to sort the group list alphabetically, and this group
here was the first group with "new" posts that I looked at, so I hadn't
noticed the dates when I sent my reply. :-/

Not the first time that E-S is having trouble, though, and it won't be
the last time either. But then again, it's a free service and most of
the time, it works rather well, so I guess we shouldn't complain. ;)

I was using Eternal-September when it was called Motzarella. Before that I
used another German news server, news.individual.net (but I think it had a
different name before that one – found it, it was news.cis.dfn.de).

No wonder. I thought it was weird that I was seeing posts about Marek
Novotny now. Thanks for the heads up. Eternal-September seems to be working
fine in the other two newsgroups I subscribe to. (At least the indexes seem
right.)

Marek Novotny gave me good advice several times (it's why I'm using slrn
now and went with Digital Ocean for my wife's Moodle servers). And, speaking
of "Snit", Marek even sent him a Mac laptop, because he figured he needed it.
Salt of the earth. I was sorry to hear about his medical issues (didn't know
about them until his posts stopped). May he rest in peace.

Marek helped me greatly set up my vpn scripts on Ubuntu.
He wrote the scripts and I tested them for him.
I never communicated with him over email but only over Usenet.

I care about privacy where Marek was wonderfully helpful (where he wrote
most of the vpn scripts I still use today).

When Marek returned from that first stroke, he again was very helpful
(we had issues with DNS leaks under vpn, for example).

I'm amazed that he sent Snit a laptop as I can't think of a worse Usenet
citizen than Snit (well, maybe that Burford, Anonymous, Nescio, Burke, etc,
set of automation trolls are even worse).

Snit even wrote an entire idiotic video about me, where I was amazed
at how utterly stupid Snit is. Message-ID: <D6025E05.BA636%usenet@gallopinginsanity.com>

It's sad but the stupidity of people like Snit is shocking, and worse, Snit
posted that inane video over 400 times before I stopped counting, so, not
only was Snit unfathomably stupid, but also insanely stubborn.

Snit was one of the few people I've dealt with who are literally too stupid
to learn, where, Marek had to be a saint to send him anything, especially a
laptop.

"Snit" had complained (mentioned?) that his wife's computer was on the
fritz, so Marek sent the computer for her. That was just the way he was.
