It is based on Arch, but IRIX was a Unix derivative.
And they polished up the MaXX desktop, so it doesn't look retro at all.
I would rather install CDE on a Debian-based distro for nostalgia.

I assume it would be a Linux version of IRIX (whatever that is) 
according to the design principles of IRIX (whatever those were.

Ah, I see... the window manager they use is an evolution of the IRIX 
window manager, so I guess their whole point is making a system that 
uses it.

I'd like the Silicon Graphics 3D file system navigator fully implemented 
... same as seen on Jurassic Park. I wonder if it runs on that.

Might want to investigate fsv:

https://github.com/mcuelenaere/fsv

It's in AUR, builds and runs on Linux Mint.

It's also unmaintained -- if it breaks, you get to
keep both pieces, etc.

(Consider filelight(1) for a better visualization
experience.)

Have you even looked at their screenshots in detail? The only thing it has that isn't classic is the background and the resolution.
